Great hotel
Very clean, in the center of Lucerne city,highly recommend.

Great locationl, but expensive
This hotel is situated in a great place (unless you have a car with you) in the Old Town of Lucerne. IT was difficult to reach by car, and parking was nearly $30 day extra. The rooms are ample and clean, but not luxurious. We stayed for two nights, and found the street noise a nuisance--no air conditioning, so windows had to be open, and LOTS of noise all night. One of the desk clerks was friendly and helpful, one sarcastic and sneering. The breakfast bar was barely adequate, and the lady serving was very surly. The cleaning between nights was minimal, and the amenities, like soaps, were not replaced. The beauty and charm of Lucerne waiting outside the door made up for the noticeable flaws here. Cheap at half the price!
Traveler's tip on local attractions
While nearly everyone heads for the beauty of the riverfront or the charm of the Old Town, don’t forget to walk AWAY from the river until you reach the towers of the Old City wall. It’s worth the climb to the top!

Watch out for bed bugs!
When we went to check in, they told us we were staying at another hotel because our room had bed bugs! I am glad we were not the ones to figure it out. They put us up in a very nice hotel, though, that wasn’t too far away.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
Definitely check out the Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria (Valentina?) next to the Hotel Des Balances. It was the best pizza and pasta we had on our trip!
