Not warm and fuzzy
When asked how I liked this hotel, I always sigh and pause. Having the free breakfast and wine and cheese in the evenings is a plus. The hotel was clean and in a great location, and you could tell people take pride in the care and cleanliness of the hotel. But if you like a hotel room that is warm and inviting, making you want to stay in bed and read all day with the occassional nap, this is not your hotel. The bed linens were not good, terrible pillows, chair that felt like concrete, etc. The exposed brick walls were nice, but the black and white ceramic tiles all over the bathroom made no sense and was unpleasant to look at. Toilet made a loud howling noise every time we flushed it. Hotel employees not terribly warm and fuzzy, but gave good directions. Not a good hotel if you have kids.
The metro stop is 2-3 blocks away. Extremely easy to navigate the Metro. Similar to DC but less crowded. Much easier than NYC. I highly recommend taking advantage of the Metro.

Nice Hotel, Nice Location
If youre looking to explore Montreal, this hotel makes a great home base. Its convenient to old Montreal and the downtown area. A metro stop is only a block away, making everything else in Montreal easily accessible. The complimentary breakfast is a great start to the day, and their complementary wine and cheese tastings are a great start to the evening. My only complaint about this hotel would be the shower, which didnt deliver much water pressure. But perhaps this was only the shower head in the room we received.
November may not be the best time to visit. Most of the site-seeing tours arent operational during November, and many of the parks and monuments are undergoing repairs before the onset of Winter.

Elegance in Old Montreal
This is an excellent hotel located in a very favorable spot in old Montreal - near the shops, waterfront features, restaurants, historical sites and transportation links - thus providing easy access by foot to the many attractions in the area.
Go in the fall - great colors, few crowds and good service at many interesting establishments.

Outstanding Place!
This excellent hotel and its superb staff added immeasurably to the pleasure of Montreal. Fine location, wonderful room and amenities and exceptional staff. They could do anything, and were genuinely eager to assist. The building and the staff were all good looking. Nice wine in the early evening.

Place DArmes review
Right across the street from the convention center, this hotel had friendly service and spacious rooms. It was far better than the rooms numerous friends had at other chain hotels nearby. The room was large and well suited to business travel. Only quibble was the TV was far from the bed, so it could only be watched sitting on the sofa or chairs.
Traveler's tip for business travelers
Internet access (included in the room rate) was both wired and wireless, so a plugged in laptop and a wireless iPhone connection were both easy to use. A light breakfast and wine & cheese in the late afternoon was also part of the room rate.

Great staff, great room. Breakfast and evening wine/cheese were a nice touch. Very conveniently located.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
Make sure to get a Metro 3 day pass if youre staying that long.

Spacious, close to old Montreal, but lots of outside noise
The Hotel Place dArmes was one of the nicest hotel rooms Ive stayed in (and Ive been in a lot of hotel rooms); we stayed in a deluxe King which was huge. It felt more like a loft than a hotel room; our favorite part was the bed which was ridiculously comfortable. My girlfriend has a hard time sleeping in hotels, but she said she felt like she was at home in that bed. I did have a few gripes, which was that the toilet in the bathroom wasnt clean when we first arrived, and room service was really slow (45 minutes for a pot of tea). They did comp us the tea since it took so long, but we had to call down twice to finally get it delivered. The location of the hotel is good and bad. The good is the proximity to the main streets of old Montreal, the Basilica, and Metro station. The bad is it was really noisy at night from people screaming on the streets late at night and the proximity to the fire station (heard sirens all night long). All in all, it was a positive experience but next time, Ill look for something a little farther away from the fire station.

terrific hotel
The hotel room was very comfortable. The building is in a great location. The staff is very helpful and went the extra mile. We loved the way it looked, not too austere, but not overly fancy. The food including complimentary breakfast was excellent.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
it says afternoon check in and check out at 11, but they had a room early when we called so we were able to check in early and they let us keep the parking during the day we were to check out and stow our bags so we got some xtra time in the city.

Exceptional Hotel
Im a frequent traveler and booked this hotel because of its high ratings on TripAdvisor. The hotel room was amazing: large, clean, amble. Its right across from the Notre Dame Basilica. The free wine and cheese 5-7 pm is a nice pre-dinner event. We didnt eat at the Hotels restaurant, so cant comment. The bar had one of the best bartenders weve experienced: look for the guy who samples each drink (not with his mouth on your glass of course) because the drinks will be just perfect. Minor issues include no TV in the bar (Im a sports fan) because of the John Lennon/Yoko Ono theme, lack of flat screen TV (although I would rather have a high quality CRT than a flat screen which is not HDTV like in some hotels).

A jewel in Montreal!
Our first impression of the Place de Armes was a bit disconcerting--a fire alarm was blaring as we walked into the hotel to register! But, it was a false alarm and normalcy set in very soon. The hotel staff were wonderful and helpful throughout our stay (e.g., dinner recommendations, getting cabs, delivering materials left in our car)...and the whole experience fabulous. Well be back on our next visit to Montreal!!!!
Traveler's tip on local attractions
The hotel is located in Old Montreal, so convenient to many wonderful restaurants and shops, as well as to subway stops that will deliver you elsewhere.

Style, comfort, and location
Its nice to walk into a hotel room and be impressed! Both the size and the decor of our room at the Hotel Place dArmes were exceptional. The furniture was large, dark, and metro-modern, and the soft furnishings were plush and comfortable. The bedroom had a large sitting area with a sofa and an easy chair, plus an electric fireplace -- not as tacky as it sounds, and it offered both heat and charm on a winter evening. The bath fittings were sleek and modern, and the shower stall was larger than most hotel bathrooms. High ceilings in both rooms made them feel even more spacious. My only reservation is that the lighting was a little too low and dramatic -- it was rather difficult to read in the sitting area. The hotel was converted from three historic commercial buildings; the coversion maintains the charm of the old architecture while adding a definite urban-modern style. Service at the front desk was always cheerful and helpful. The restaurants recommended at the front desk were exceptionally good. A decent continental breakfast (pastries, cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit salad) and an evening wine-and-cheese reception was included with the room. Hot breakfast was available at an additional cost. Hotel Place d"Armes is on the edge of Old Montreal, just across a park from the Church of Notre Dame. The restaurants, bars, shops, and museums of Old Town are a short downhill stroll (even in the dead of winter it was very do-able).
Traveler's tip on dining
For a great dinner, try Le Petit Moulinsart, about four blocks from the hotel. The restaurant specializes in mussels, but every dish we tried was excellent. The chef went out of his way to accommodate the vegan among us; she said her meal was absolutely outstanding.

A beautiful and comfortable place to come home to.
All aspects of the facilities and services left us very satisfied with our choice. Our only suggestion is that a small rug or mat near the door would have allowed us to remove our shoes and avoid tracking the dirt and salt from the street onto the beautiful wood floors.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
In cold weather, the RESO can be easily accessed about a block away on Rue St. Jacques.

Exceeded my mothers expectations!!
We were in town for three short nights and loved every minute. The king deluxe room was great: a huge space with lounge chairs, couch and small table for two. The bed was comfy with plenty of pillows. The bathroom was also large w/ soaking tub and separate shower w/ rain head and stocked with toiletries from the in house spa. Everyone at this hotel is friendly and accommodating from the bell hops and front desk staff to the servers in the restaurant. I cannot say enough about how helpful the concierge staff was. I contacted them via email even before we arrived and continued to use their services throughout our stay. I hope to visit Montreal again soon and will definitely stay at this hotel!
Traveler's tip on dining
We enjoyed a delicious dinner at Gibbys, recommended by our tour guide. Also, if you want to see a beautiful church and like music, attend the 11am high mass at Notre Dame Cathedral at Place DArmes. The choir and organ music is outstanding.

Really nice hotel, great location
The room was big, beautiful and modern. They all come with fun, faux "fireplaces." The location is perfect for tourism. On the edge of charming Old Montreal yet near great restaurants in downtown, chinatown and beyond. Very central. The breakfast included is nice with fresh fruit, bagels etc. We stayed at the hotel twice (coming and going from Montreal airport) and on our second stay they left a really lovely platter of fancy chocolates, biscotti and Italian water.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
Try to get a corner room to see the Cathedral view. Or get a room on the back side of the hotel to see Chinatown. The front facing rooms look into the windows of the building across the street with office workers staring back at you from 8am to 5pm.

Friendly, fancy but non-pretentious
We plan on staying there again! They were so good to us and truly made us feel like rock stars. Accomadated our request to change rooms halfway through the week (essentially a free upgrade) because we wanted a room with the rain shower and fireplace. Staff could not have been nicer! Central location a definite plus!!!
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Make sure to visit the lovely restaurants in the area. The concierge at this hotel will act almost like a trip planner, if asked, and will recommend the perfect activities/restaurants for you

Great Location
Located in the heart of old Montreal makes this hotel a perfect spot for sightseeing, walking and relaxing. Service was excellent, breakfast was okay but the wine and cheese was a great way to start the night.
Traveler's tip on dining
St. Paul Street is a 2 block with many great places to eat and drink.
