Sofitel Marrakech- nice, but not great
nice hotel.... but not great. overall service was quite average....one would expect better. do not let them put you in a room facing the street. the late night noise from traffic and a nearby club is loud.........wish there were non smoking areas............

Luxury, Comfort and Very Attentive Service in Marrakech
We were very pleased with the Sofitel Marrakech during our 9 day stay in October. The level of service and friendliness by everyone from the doormen to the concierge was outstanding. Their on-site SPA, including hammam, sauna, massage, etc. is an experience not to be passed up. The Concierge was very helpful in arranging privately guided tours and day-trips to the Atlas Mountains and the Atlantic Coast of Africa, at not unreasonable prices. The swimming pool is truly a work of art, immense in a beautiful garden setting with waiters to bring refreshments directly to you at your lounge chaise, where you can relax after a morning of visiting the Marrakech. There are three restaurants with world-class cuisine. The hotel is a secure enclave, only 10 minutes walk to the Souks in the Medina. Everything together contributed to a very positive Moroccan experience.
Traveler's tip on recreational activities
The local drivers of taxis and the tour cars are idiosyncratic about seat belts. They will consistently tell you there is no need to put them on. Im told it is a machismo thing for them, as they fancy themselves great drivers. They are not. Insist on a car with seatbelts and wear them no matter what the driver tells you. Theyre the worst drivers Ive ever ridden with!

Nice first world hotel
The Sofitel in Marrakech is a very nice "first world" hotel. It is clean, very big with the various features you would expect. However, the hotel staff could be friendlier and more proactive. Plus, there are so many unique, small hotels in Marrakech that are more beautiful, cheaper with great service that I would not strongly recommend going to the Sofitel.
