Nice enough hotel but smoky; terrible staff

The room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The free minibar was a welcome touch too. However, the staff was very rude at this hotel. I had trouble with 3 different staff. When checking in, I was handed a long hotel agreement to sign. I actually read these things, and after about 10 seconds of reading the front desk clerk said rudely "I can give you a copy to read later". There wasn’t anyone else waiting to check in, so I’m not sure what his hurry was. When checking out, I was second in line. This clerk was having trouble with the customer ahead of me, so it took a while. Another guest came up to check out, and she started helping him while I was standing right there! I had to flag her down to give her my keys (no need for anything else since I’d already paid with Expedia). We left our luggage there during our day trip to Gibraltar. Upon getting back, I asked another clerk for our luggage; he said nothing and walked away. Concerned that he hadn’t heard me, I asked him again and he very rudely said "Yes, yes!" and then proceeded to ask me things like "What’s wrong? Are you okay? Are you feeling well?" Also, the hotel is supposedly non-smoking in certain areas but the smoke blows in anyway. Guests and staff smoke outside of the front door of the lobby. It was so bad that I got up once and closed the door.

A toss up depending on your needs

I can honestly say that staying at the AC may be a good alternative to more pricier hotels depending on your needs. For me this was a business trip and the basic necesities were mediocre. Wireless internet service was very spotty and at time no signal at all. The air conditioning was minimal, and the restaurant food and service was lousy. The first night I waited 10 minutes without anyone attending; very bad considering they only had 2 customers. I left without any attendent presenting themself. I returned a couple of nights later, and again waited for service, this time waited 5 minutes then just sat myself down. The worst part was the dinner itself. I was better off going to a fast food place and paying 1/4 of the cost. The restaurant was the biggest disappointment but should not reflect on the hotel overall. Very nice and helpful front desk staff. Rooms were clean, nicely decorated and the beds were comfortable. Not the best area but safe and in a convinient location. The AC is a good alternative to pricier hotels in Gibraltar and may be an ideal hotel to stay in the summer vacation months when basic hotel necesities are not extremely necessary, but will need some improvements to accommodate business travelers. Overall the hotel has great potential with cost sensitive business travelers but will need to make some simple improvements to retain the businessmen/women clients.

Traveler's tip for business travelers

Not ideal for the businesmen/women
