Best deal in Sacramento

We were residents of Sacramento for 8 years, had attended a few weddings here, but never had a reason to stay until we were relocating out of town and needed somewhere to stay for a few days. The rates were great, the food was adequate, and the room (though a bit dated) was very nice and a great bargain. I would definitely recommend this place to business travelers and anyone looking for a nice place to sleep -- I don’t think you would want to spent a lot of time hanging out at the Vizcaya during the day. We weren’t there on a weekend, but based on the amount of wedding activity here, I bet it’s not a great weekend stay unless you are going to a wedding there. To the Inn - I would considered modifying the main house by replacing any non-period decor with decor that better suits the era that the hotel is trying to represent (specifically the geisha picture in the dining room). Also consider losing the lace lined drapes - makes the place feel a bit too confined and old (like dying grandma old). Having no window coverings would open the place up and make it more inviting. We stayed in the carriage house 3 room. No view, but the room was great (bathroom is almost as big as the room!)

Lovely Old Hotel

Viscaya is a lovely B&B in the heart of a pretty residential district - close to downtown (I walked to the Capitol). The room was spacious & sunny. I would definitely stay here again.

Charming

The reviews are split between people who have visited in connection with weddings, and those who were there for the lodging. I and a business colleague were there for lodging. I found the place on one of the travel websites, and read the mixed reviews. I took a chance and was pleasantly surprised. The old home is lovely - I cannot imagine what it would have been like to live there. My room was quite nice, and the breakfast was good. The neighborhood was quiet, and it was a short drive to our business function in downtown. It was less than half of the cost of the chain hotels, and I thought it was a bargain.

Traveler's tip for business travelers

It is a Bed & Breakfast, but that does not rule out lodging for a business traveler. Just carry your own phone and e-mail access and know that they do not have a "business center".

oh my word - its beautiful

those were the first words we uttered when we saw vizcaya. it is all you hope a bed and breakfast to be - and more. our room was gorgeous and huge. i was traveling with my son to see bis law school so we had the only room with 2 queen beds and it was just beautiful as was the bathroom. we had a key to the front door to come and go as we please (how cool is that) and the breakfasts were wonderful. i can’t wait to go back - and i will many times over the next 3 years.

Peaceful & Convenient

I had an upstairs room in the carriage house. It was very private with my own entrance surrounded by beautiful grounds. A shopping center was within walking distance as well as a very good restaurant.

Sacramento’s best buy

The place is like a bed & breakfast with only a few rooms. A big, old comfortable house with modern amenities. Hugenumber of tV chanels. Great staff. I highly recommend Vizcaya & will stay there upon my business trips to Sacramento.

Traveler's tip for business travelers

Stay at the Vizcaya.

charming

vizcaya is a nice bed & breakfast. the room was comfortable and clean with a nice size bathroom and cool antique pedestal sink. the faucet leaked a little but it didn’t prove to be annoying and i guess that’s just part of what happens with old fixtures. breakfast was good, hosts were nice, complimentary snacks in the room were very much appreciated, but it has a peculiar smell when you enter the house. i’d call it an old house smell - we got used to it once in our rooms and didn’t notice it as we came down for breakfast in the morning. but anytime we left and came back into the house the odor was there. it wasn’t repulsive and shouldn’t keep someone from staying there in my opinion, but it’d be nice to freshen it up or air it out in there a little.

Lovely stay at Vizcaya

My husband and I were traveling from Los Angeles to Ashland, Oregon and spent the night at the Vizcaya. It’s a lovely bed and breakfast near some nice restaurants in the downtown area. The rooms are clean and comfortable and their continental breakfast was just right. Beautiful renovated Victorian.

Attractive bed-and-breakfast-style hotel

Nice old Victorian home, plus wedding hall, in quiet neighborhood of similar homes. Friendly, informal staff. Good food. Comfortable rooms.

Great B&B

Great place to stay if you want to stay in a Bed & Breakfast. If you want regular hotel services you won’t find it here. A bit far from downtown and convention center. Wonderful breakfast and very nice people. Place is aging a bit and it needs sprucing up.

Great place to stay in Sacramento

We had a terrific stay at Vizcaya. The hotel staff were very personable and professional. They cooked breakfast to order in the morning and had a good variety of cold breakfast as well. This hotel is close to downtown and is within walking distance of a number of nice restaurants.

Traveler's tip on dining

There is a nice bistro a few blocks walk from the hotel on 21st and (P/S Street).

Nice but not for business

The staff is very nice, best cookies I have had, but the room had a pole with a table in the middle of it.

Sure Beats The Holiday Inn Express, etc.

A wonderful alternative to the franshised typical away from home hotel choices. Lovely setting, more like a nice quality European Bed and Breakfast experience with good WIFI, TV, etc. I will go back to it next time and strongly recommend it to my friends and business colleagues.

Just Like Home

This place is by far the best non-commercial hotel we’ve stayed at. Our room featured a jacuzzi that could easily fit two large adults(no fireplace) and the bathroom was bigger than my bedroom at home. The bedroom was not as nice (it could barely fit a queen sized bed), but since we were out and about, it didn’t matter much. The complimentary breakfast was also very good.

Great Getaway

We couldn’t have asked for a better place than to spend our wedding night. It was quiet, with a great ambiance. The service was fantastic but were never seen. Upon check in they upgraded up (at no charge) to a larger room. They were very gracious and friendly. I would highly recommend it! We will definitely be back.

Great hidden hideaway

This place is great. I feel like I should be greedy and not let anyone know about it or I’ll have a harder time getting a room, or pay a much higher price next visit. Its a very convenient location, long walk or short drive to downtown. Lots of good restaurants within walking distance and very nice clean rooms.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Search for B&B’s like this, it makes business travel much more exciting than staying in the chain hotels...

Great getaway!

My wife and I went here for a couple of days to treat ourselves after sending our youngest child off to college. We were treated very well. They even offered to upgrade us to a better room that was available for no extra charge. The rooms were terrific and very clean. It seemed to be a reasonably quiet area of town. We were very pleased and would definitely go back again!!

Very Nice B & B style hotel

This is a very comfortable place to stay. Service was helpful, room was nice and functional, the work area was a bit small. My only concerns were the parking, you park on the public street at meters. The second, was the heat and air control are not in your room, I was able to open the windows and have a nice temp. Everything else was top quality including a cook to order breakfast.
