It was okay, but far from great

I remembered Escondido being nicer, but apparently things aren’t as nice as they used to be. The hotel is pretty run-down and needs some upgrades, especially to the exterior. The room was clean and neat, but the furnishings were a bit rickety and dated. The staff was very friendly, but the free breakfast was very limited (cereal and toast/bagels, coffee and juice). You get what you pay for here and not much else.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

If you see your hotel as mainly a place to shower and sleep and not much else, this may be a good place for you. Probably not the best place for kids.

Not worth it

Beds were hard as a rock, room had a musty/smoky smell even though it was a "non-smoking" room. Shower head was at nose-level (and I’m only 5’8"). They only give you 2 towels and 1 washcloth. Continental breakfast was a couple of cereals, a few english muffins and some bread, coffee was like water. Do yourself a favor and spend a few more bucks for something nicer. Only plus was that it had a fridge and microwave.

Impressed

I thought that this hotel was great. It was clean and well maintained. It is in a good location. I would stay here again.

Poor Howard Johnson

This hotel looked ok on the website, but something must have slipped through the cracks. This place was horrible. It was the kind of hotel that you would take a $10.00 hooker to and pay for the room by the hour. Not exactly the standard that the Howard Johnson Company has tried to build over the last several decades. If they were smart, they would take their name off this hotel in a hurry.

Spring break

Outside of a very loud shower this hotel was perfect for our stay. It was comfortable enough, and the staff was friendly.

The staff is very friendly with one exception. The early morning people were grouchy and appear not to like getting up so early. The placce is clean and quiet for the location. if you are looking for a reasonable place, this is it. my friends and I had six rooms.

Very good hotel

Like most HoJo’s, this was a very good and clean hotel, located near the freeways. There is also a restaurant next door, but I had dinner with friends.

OK for sleeping

Good location but far enough away from main street to limit noise. Limited access - only available from right lanes. Friendly staff. Sub-par breakfast. No hot water in the sink but OK in shower.

Broken Down Motel

The motel is old and broken down. The mattreses were worn out and uncomfortable, you could feel the springs in your back. It looked like our door had been broken into at one time, there was a huge gap, which allowed light to come through.

Inexpensive Hotel at an Inexpensive price.

I was only staying for one night. The hotel was convenient to the highway. It was a little hard to access from the 78 highway. The check-in was flawless. The room was comfortable. The wake up call took into account the time change. The breakfast was only cereal or engish muffins and juice or coffee. The price was reasonable and the hotel was better then the price charged.

Not impressed

I am sad to write this review. When I booked it I thought this would be a decent hotel at a good price. The hotel is located in an area of Escondido that I would be afraid to walk in alone. The rooms were run down and not nice at all. All the rooms have outside access which is noisier and not as safe as inside rooms. I will not go back.

fair hotel for the price

Hotel staff: first night friendly and helpful, second night rude and unfriendly. The mattress was a little hard and the pillows uncomfortable. There is only a small round table in the room so if you’re planning on working forget it. We got a non smoking room, but the room above us was smoking, and when ever they smoked, our room became a smoking room as well. I woke up both mornings with a sore throat because of it. You get what you pay for, and we didn’t pay much so it was fine. It’s not a bad hotel if you’re just going to use it to sleep. The only reason I wouldn’t go back is because of the smoking issue.

Ghetto ambience

I don’t consider myself real fussy about where I spend a night but this place disappointed me. On entering the room, it took me 4 tries to find a light that worked. It was clean enough, etc. Continental breakfast was meager. The worst was the clientele: on the way to register, two lowlifes in the hot tub were talking about a jail stay; I didn’t hear if it was past, future, or hypothetical. Then my neighbors spent most of the evening outside the rooms, drunk and yelling and laughing and falling down. Charming. Oh, and the hot water in the shower hammered so loud I could hardly stand it, much less the people in 11 surrounding rooms. Manager: "Yeah, it does that."

Great stop!

We stayed here overnight at the last minute, and it was a great place! Really friendly and helpful staff, clean and comfortable and really spacious rooms, tons of cable channels, and free breakfast in the morning! And the cost was very low. We’d go back again in a second!

Save money hotel

Good place to stay if on a budget, clean.

You get what you paid for

Services were OK. Check in was quick and we order extra pillows and they were delivered within 5 minutes. Room conditions were not great, carpet was dirty and not because it wasn’t vacuumed. We found a roach and some ants. Bed was not great but livable for couple days. At least it has cable with good receptions.

There are few shopping centers and a Regal Movie Theater around the area not too far from the Inn but not within walking distances.

The staff was very friendly and professional. The rooms were clean and satisfactory. Overall it was a very good experience for a two star hotel. Also, the hotel is located right in the heart of the city so that stores, restaurants, etc. are very accessbile.

It’s ok

Not great but not bad. The beds were super crunchy because they seemed old but slept ok. Air conditioner work fine except it’s location is right under the window making it awkward to have it running and the blinds closed simultaneously.

Never Again!

The carpet was totally saturated, and the bathroom had many ants. The room had no ventilation during the day we arrived, so it stank when we walked in. We could not stay in the room and had to drive all the way home that night. Very disappointing!

No Frills, but acceptable for a place to stay

Room was in good shape and wifi worked with no problems at all. Free breakfast on premises was very helpful to have, but there is also a restaurant across the parking lot that offered full breakfasts for only $4.99. Fancy? No, but I’d return.

Exceeded Expectations!

Upon arriving, the lady at the front desk greeted me with a smile. She was very friendly and had me checked in within 2 min. The room was in great condition, the beds were comfy. What else do u need? Would definitely stay there again! Should be rated higher than it is.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

If you have a laptop and expect to use the FREE Wi-Fi, make sure you get a room closest to the office. The wireless router is in there, not all over the hotel or the individual rooms.
