Location, Location, Location
Courteous staff and great lobby. Complimentary breakfast was good. The loaction is phenomemal. You are a block or so away from shopping, restaurants, and the T. Tons of attractions just a few blocks away. Much cheaper than surrounding hotels in the same location.

WOW, what a disappointment!
After reading the reviews, I decided to select the JH for my recent trip to Boston. It was a quick one-nighter so I was looking for a basic clean, convenient hotel that was moderately priced. The JH was indeed moderately priced and convenient, but the quality was seriously lacking. The lobby is spare but charming, but the rest of the hotel is tired and drab. The room was tiny, with the double bed touching a small desk that was touching a dresser that contained a tv (dont think about watching tv in bed unless you want a twisted neck in the morning). Oh yes, there was also a thinly upholstered wooden chair. The little soaps and shampoos were good quality, but the tub was full of rust and mildew and bathroom could only hold one person at a time. The little girl at the desk was friendly and tried to be helpful but her knowledge of local restaurants (even one that was 2 blocks away) was nil. If I were you, Id spend a few more bucks and avoid the JH. We quickly moved across the street to the Westin!
You cannot beat Radius for hip elegance and outstanding food -- unless youre in the mood for authentic Italian...then, the best Ive ever had is Via Matta! Great service! Great food! Great ambiance! Not cheap, but well worth it!

John Hancock Back Bay Boston
We were traveling from Providence RI to Chicago via Amtrak; so we wanted a hotel in Back Bay Boston within walking distance of the train station. This hotel was no more than a three minute walk. We were surprised by the room. It was small, but comfortable--in a traditional hotel that my wife and I enjoy. The Breakfast had the staples which are important to me---fruit and cereal. The neighborhood is first rate. All in all, we were thrilled.
I think the only times to go to Boston are in the Spring and Fall.
