Cute

I thought this hotel was cute, right on the beach. The cabana bar was nice to have a drink at and the people were friendly.

Louie’s Backyard is a great place to eat and hang out. Lots of TV’s if your a sports fan.

Not impressed

I should have checked out ummediately when I opened the room door and smelled the mold. I thought it might get better with the airconditioning, but it didn’t. The room was clean but old and the remodel can’t hide many of the problems. I turned on the light during the night and there were a number of roaches on the floor. Overall it was terible. The restaurant closed at 8:00 pm with a number of people waiting to order.

Over 30 yrs. old? Don’t go here!

This place is not of the quality for what you would expect to recieve for the price. Too loud and busy 85% of the time, because of the popular beach bar and grill attached to property.Room service? What room service. Unmentionable stains that have not been washed out of bedspread. Microwave isn’t worth giving it to charity. States, tub/shower...tub is wired so you Cannot take a bath, only showering, and the shower is built for people 5’2" and under. Yes, bugs too...gross. Booked for 6 day stay and couldn’t get past 2 days, what a fix that put us in. The atmosphere is like this place can’t get past Spring Break; if I wanted that, I wouldn’t be there that time of year(middle summer). Looking for class with a modest price? This is not the place to go.

Exactly what we expected

The reviews I read before we booked this hotel were accurate. We got exactly what we expected. The rooms are large and clean. We had a full fridge, microwave, hotplate, and coffee maker which was more than we expected. The beach was kind of dirty right out front of the hotel just as some other visitors mentioned. The food and drinks at the beach bar were great. We had a great stay.

Traveler's tip

I’m not sure if we were just there at an unusual time, but we experienced several power outages. These were usually limited to the other side of the island, but the night before we left the power at the hotel was out for a few hours.

Poorly Done

This hotel was apparently damaged by huricane Dolly on 2007 huricane season. I saw their add stating that remodeling was done and that they were just opening from this. The remodeling was poorly done. Some of the furniture was broken, lamp shades missing. Not very clean. I booked for a beach front room and got a across-the-street room. Beach wasn’t very clean either, but that is not entirely their fault. Trust me, look elsewere.

Great location!

The location of this hotel was the greatest perk. It is an older hotel and there aren’t any "services" offered. The bar/grill on site was great.

Great Place

The hotel was great. The room had all the comforts of home. We did not utilize the full kitchen, but it was a nice feature. The outdoor bar/restaurant, right on the beach, was fantastic. We spent much of our time there, relaxing. Will return in the near future.

Great Location

My 23 year old daughter & I stayed at Wanna Wanna during our vacation in Padre. It was a GREAT location, just across the street from the beach. The Bar & Grill at the hotel has the best fried shrimp I’ve ever tasted. We had a GREAT time!

Had a Great Time

This hotel is exactly what you expect from a beach hotel. We stayed on the beach side in a perfectly comfortable room with tile floors and a small kitchenette. Our room was cleaned daily, plenty of fresh towels and a good bar and grill just steps away. Live music on Saturday and Sunday. Well worth the price...

Fun small motel

We stayed in the hotel as a romantic getaway and we had a great time. The hotel is a small complex when compared to the towers of condos all over SPI. Unlike most small complexes this place feels more like a Mexican resort. Great flowers and trees make for a tropical feeling. The great thing about Wanna Wanna is the bar. The outdoor bar was a lot of fun. We saw a lot of people who were not staying at the bar come just for the bar. They even have their own tropical drink creation! If you are looking for a fun place and want a place to have a drink at the beach then this is the best place in SPI. If you are wanting a luxurious room and room service then is the wrong place. The rooms are not that great. This place is all about the atmosphere.

Traveler's tip

Use suncreen and watch out: even when it is not that hot in SPI you can get burned bad - this includes your scalp!

Wanna Wanna go back to this great place!

The rooms were great and much larger than expected! The hotel office staff was very helpful anytime we had questions about the island or any needs pertaining to our stay. All in all I would really recommend Wanna Wanna.

OK, FOR YOUNG PARTIERS

I DON’T RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO MIDDLE AGE OR OLDER PEOPLE. WE BOOKED IT FOR A RELAXING WEEK AND OUR ROOM WAS ABOUT 10 FEET FROM THE OUTSIDE BAR. SO IF YOU EXPECT TO RELAX FORGET IT. AND ALSO THEY WERE NOT OCEAN VIEW ROOMS UNLESS U CAN SEE THUR THE WALLS. ALSO THERE WAS NO PARKING AVAILABLE EXCEPT DOWN THE STREET.

Not my best experience

We stayed in the rooms across the street from the main hotel. The rooms have no heat except a space heater we found in the closet.(We were there in January) The beds were made but the sheets never changed. The floor swept but the sink rarely cleaned. There was a coffee maker but the supplies never replenshed. We only got a few tv channels and reception was awful they told us the cable was bad they would replace it next month. The room was freshly painted, new bed spreads. Clean towels every day. Staff friendly and helpful. Microwave & small refrigerator. Porch/patio with table and chairs for each room.

not again

I got there to check into my King sized suite, on the beach, and found out: 1.Yes the hotel is on the beach - the advertised room is 1st floor (in the corner where the motel makes an L) and you cant see the beach - or anything else. 2. The staff are friendly and helpful, but they dont have much to work with. We opted for a room on the 2nd floor with two regular sized beds. nice view but still a big mistake 3. They do keep the room clean (no sand etc), but the sliding door wouldnt open without a lot of work, the tub/shower faucet, spout, and shower head were just dangling out of the wall, (you could push them in and out of the wall 5-6 inches) 4.The regular sized bed mattresses were horrible. All in all - I will NOT go there again.

Traveler's tip on dining

The breakfast at "the Grapevine Cafe" is fantastic! Be prepared for a wait on Sunday morning though.

Perfect Spring Break Hotel

This is an older hotel but well maintained. Price compensates for the age. Loved the attached thatch roofed bar and grill on the beach with a great view of the ocean! Room had full size fridge but only a double hot plate instead of a stove. Dishes & pans were provided. Room 115, a king, had three ocean views but sits over the bar/party area and could be loud on a busy weekend. Room 111 would have been a better pick also with a view. This would be a great spring break hotel! We will definately return.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Check out the Texas Moon bar & grill. Smaller place but well worth the ambiance. Good food, small dance floor with live music 4-7pm most nights. Specials until 6pm.

Surprised

The actual exterior of the hotel was misleading to the service and gratitude showed by the staff, as well as the interior of the rooms. These rooms were wonderful and well kept.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

There is a bar there at the Hotel which made it very convenient to not have to go dine every evening in an alternate location nor if a group chose to drink alcohol would they need to worry about how to get home.

Not impressed

I was not happy with this hotel. We paid a little extra for a beach front hotel. The whole hotel was on the beach!! We should not have had to pay extra. The clerk at the front of the desk was not sympathetic when we expressed this concern. We also found a couple dead roaches in our room.

Average Room, but great beach access

When we first arrived our door knob was lose & dead bolt did not work. We called down to the front desk and within minutes they had a repair man there fixing it. Pool was very clean and the Wanna Wanna bar was nice. Great beach access and we would stay here again.

Good Location

It has a good location to the beach. It is a much older hotel and has been updated. If you are looking for a good location to the beach at a reasonable price, I would recommend it. Has a good beach bar with food.

Fun place to stay

The hotel was right on the beach, the bar was cool, the staff was friendly, the rooms were small but they were clean and comfortable. If you want upscale then don’t go here but if your all about fun then this is the place.

Best place on the beach

I recently stayed at this fun hotel and had the best time. Our room was right next to the "wanna wanna" and the food and drinks were excellent. We had a great view of the beach and live music weekend nights. Guests from other hotels also hung out there so the crowd was varied and fun. The cable connection for the TV was terrible, but who watches TV at the beach anyway?

Traveler's tip on local attractions

You must go on a dolphin watch cruise, there are hundreds in the bay and we got to see several close to the boat
