Off the beaten track
Conveniently located within easy walking distance of the main train station, Il Guercino is named after one of Bologna’s famed Baroque artists and features reproductions of his works in the lobby and breakfast room. It’s an attractive and quiet setting, and the air conditioning (24 hours) in my room was a welcome respite from the August heat. The staff at the front desk was very helpful, directing me to local shops. The added charge for internet usage kept me from signing up. The added charge from breakfast struck me as justifiable, as the breakfast room was charming and bounteous. Il Guercino costs less than hotels in the historic city center. All in all, the price is right.

It was our first time in bologna and being student travellers on a budget, we decided to book this hotel. The rooms were really clean; it is a short distance to the town center (Piazza Maggiore). Our only complaint was the size of the shower......you can barely move in it! But hey, it is europe. It is also walking distance to the train station....from there you can take the train to either venice or verona, both about an hour away.

definitely recommended: super helpful staff, pretty good location - 20 minutes walking from Piazza Maggiore (not a seedy neighbourhood!)
