Too much hassle

First the good, it is a nice, conveniently located hotel and the rooms were comfortable. Now the bad and the ugly, don’t bother eating in the hotel restaurant, the food is average for gourmet prices, the service at the front desk was marginal, in that they don’t tell you all you need to know about the idiosyncrasies of the billing and services, an example is, that if you even so much as move anything in the room refrigerator, you get billed electronically, no matter what, then you have to prove that you didn’t use anything. We placed store bought groceries and liquids from the local grocery store in the room refrigerator, and were billed about $50 to $60 every day. When we checked out to catch our plane , which left early in the morning, we could not settle our bill until 2 to 3 weeks later. Next, the electronic room key has to be used more than 3 or 4 times to work, and given that you have to use it for the elevator, as well s your room, it was a hassle. The ugly, the concierge service doesn’t know anything about the city, can’t tell you how to get anywhere and when they do it was usually to the wrong place. They mostly use the internet, and you can guess how up to date the internet was for Warsaw. Definitely more headache that it was worth.

nice hotel - security personnel sucks

Hotel was pretty nice. One night late, I became a subject of "security personnel" unnecessary harassment. Out of the blue, when I was approaching the elevators, they started asking me whole bunch of questions about my identity, room number, even though I had room card visible in my hand. It dragged on for about 10 minutes before i was actually able to get up to my room. I guess you get bored when you work late night shifts...

Traveler's tip

great location - walking distance to bars, restaurants and a shopping mall. Safe neighborhood to walk late at night.

Stayed at Westin Warsaw, overall decent stay, satisfied for the price

The room is clean, and somewhat modern, as always the shower is great. Free wifi at the lobby with access code retrievable from the bar

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Free wifi in the lobby/bar area, ask the bartender for the access code

no hot water and no explanation

i stayed at this hotel several times over the last few years, when it just opened it was excellent however as of late the quality of service seems to deteriorate. on this particular stay the hotel didn’t have hot water in the room. i spent 30 minutes trying to get the water going as had to leave for the airport soon thereafter, however did not succeed. when i went to check out and asked about the problem, i was told that there was no water in the whole of the hotel and that was the only explanation, or excuse, i received. not even a word from manager, not even a cup of tea, they simply took my money for the room, said, yes, there is a problem, and that was it. i don’t think this is the standard of hotel service that is acceptable not only at Westin but at any decent hotel in general.

Traveler's tip for business travelers

i normally use the taxi service called WAWA or MPT, i found them to be the most reliable

Great Place to Stay

I stayed at the Westin while I was traveling as a woman alone through Poland (Aug. 08). I found the staff to be very helpful and went out of their way to help me find information on other places I planned to stay and visit in other cities. The Westin is a business hotel - very trendy and has all the amenities you would want. It is about 5 blocks from City Center, a little farther than some hotels right in City Center. However, it was within walking distance of the local market (which I found interesting) and many restaurants. Just like in any new city, one needs to get acclimated to where things are at by asking local residents or the reservation staff at the hotel desk. I walked everywhere which included to Old Warsaw twice and didn’t feel it was a problem. I also used the business office for Internet access. That was a bit expensive per minute.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Because I’m a visual person, I should have studied the local maps better to get a better feeling of where everything was. The last day I was there, I found a block of interesting restaurants close to the hotel which I had not seen before. I was disappointed that I didn’t find them sooner. Asking the hotel staff where things were the first day would have been a good idea for me (ie, nearest mall, good restaurants, etc).
