friendly staff, great food, overprized, Definately not a 4 star

We were received by very friendly staff the entire time. The room service was awesome, and the cleaners did aa great job daily. However the bathroom was really small, and the carpeting for the entire hotel was old. The walls are really thin so you could hear conversation and " the honeymooners" next door. The restaurants served great food with reasonable prices. The breakfast buffet was the best!!!..The pillows in the room were very uncomfortable. I’m not sure that paying extra for the harbor view was worth the money. Even though the hotel was on the beach, there was a good walking distance between the hotel and the beach. The pool was great, however, the pool side restaurants and tiki bar closed early in the day. You were required to pay extra for the GYM and Internet service which was a bit obsurd. In my opinion, this should have been more of a 3 star rating.

Not great for the price

All of the hotel staff was excellent. My fiancee and I went there to get married on the beach in Clearwater, however, usually by the time we were tired and ready to get back to the room, even by 4pm our room wasn’t cleaned! And the walls were PAPER thin! We could here the room next doors’ conversations almost word for word without straining to listen - NOT good for a honeymoon!!

Nice

The hotel is well maintained, very nice looking, and the staff did their jobs flawlessly. The whole sand key is also beautifully perfect, to the point of being a bit sterile - you’ll have to drive somewhere else for nightlife. The beach is beautiful, we felt like we had the place to ourselves. It’s a perfect place if you came to be with the person you came with.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Check out the shops diagonally across the street (south) - great place to eat breakfast or supper on the water.

Loved the Hotel

The personnel in and around the hotel were friendly, helpful, and went out of their way to make us welcome. Great hotel to bring the kids.

We will return

The hotel was wonderful, the staff polite and, most importantly, the beach in front of the hotel was fantastic. Tip to the hotel would be inclusing of refrig for storage of drinks & cool snacks.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

paying an additional fee for oceanfront was well worth it. Access via the available transit(Jolley Trolley and Suncoast Trolley)was fun & important to my daughter.

Don’t waste your money

This hotel is expensive and has very poor customer service. The restaurants are all overpriced, employees with indifferent attitudes, and poor food quality. Don’t eat at the Island Grille. On three different occassions, I had to wait fifteen minutes or more for someone to take my order, or refill my drink. Another time, a waitress spilled tea all over the place and did not seem concerned that it hit me until I was ready to leave. The waiters are more concerned with cleaning the dirty tables and collecting money from other customers before taking your order or getting you a beverage. The Mainstay Tavern isn’t much better, the food quality was awful for the price. I ordered a well done cheeseburger that came out medium at best. They tried to fix it, but it came out a second time with bacon which I did not order. The housekeeping is awful in this hotel as well. They do not clean rooms until 3 pm or later on most days. I requested clean linens, and they ended up putting the same sheets back on the bed. The hotel did not seem attentive to the guests concerns. This used to be a good hotel, but the quality has gone downhill now.

Great getaway spot

The Sheraton Sand Key provided very comfortable and clean rooms, a great pool area complete with snack bar and drink bar, and a beautiful private beach. The staff was courteous and friendly, as well as helpful. It was also very convenient to have the 24 hour snack shop, as well as the choice of restaurants on the grounds of the hotel. It is located in a quiet area of Clearwater, but there are also shops and restaurants within walking distance. Overall, a terrific spot!

Sheraton at Clearwater Beach

My husband and I had a fabulous time! Our room was nice and it is right on the beach and that was a plus. The only thing we wanted and did not get was the oceanview room but we spent most of our time outside the room anyway.

Stayed for Spring break with teenage boys

The hotel is rated a 4 star but I would give it 3.5 or 3. There are no other hotels in the near vacinity for 4 stars so thus the high rating. I’d down grade it a little because the pool is small, and the main dining room needs some maintenence done. Pluses are the housekeeping staff did a great job everyday, and the valet helped and knew a lot of good local tips. Two they gave us were: Salt Rock grill, an excellent restaurant, and go to Ft. De Soto park, 1/2 hour by car...beautiful! And it’s a much much better beach. Hotel beach is far, low waves, and no life guards, most important has bad sand, hard and compacked. Not too much to do for teens, more kids in Naples or Sieta Key, or go into town the the public beach for Clearwater, lots of teens there.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Drive to Ft. De Soto for their beach, its paradise, and has life guards. At the fork in the road, turn RIGHT and go past the forts to the beach parking, about half way down. Their are little bridges that you walk over to get to the beach.

Perfect Get-away

We stayed at the Sheraton April 16-20 this year. Since they didn’t have a room with a Gulf view for all 4 nights of our stay when we booked, we agreed to stay one night with a street view then move to a new room for the remaining 3 nights. When we checked in our first night at midnight, the desk tried again but could not move things around to get us all 4 nights in the same room. No biggie, except when we got to our room, it WAS ALREADY a Gulf view! So we never had to relocate, and they even gave us a free refrigerator because according to them we didn’t get what we wanted. The fridge arrived in 10 minutes. The room service was great. Meals within 30 minutes, and portions were large. Loved the fresh flower on the condiment plate. Staff said hello everytime you walked through the lobby. Only thing I noticed is that if you don’t call room service to ask to have your dishes picked up, the housekeeping staff won’t touch them even if you leave them out in the hallway. Even got to see a wedding on the beach from our balcony. Could here music coming from the pool, very relaxing! Was just a little freaked out by the sun setting over the water instead of rising over the Atlantic. I’m an East Coast kid.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

The family entertainment at Pier 60 was great. The pier really comes alive at sunset with stret performers. Didn’t see many teenagers, mostly younger kids with families. The 4 teenagers I had with me would have been bored if we stayed any longer than 4 nights. Parasailing and paintball evened that out!

A place to return to.

Excellent service - Good location - Definitely a palce to go back to.

Traveler's tip on dining

Restaraunts are very good in the hotel The Columbia- (South American cuisine) within walking distance is also an excellent place to have dinner. Young peoples hangout ~1.5 mile away is Peir 60. night music ect.

Nice Trip

Our family stay at the Sheraton for Spring Break was very nice. The hotel was clean and updated. The pool was very crowded, but not so crowded that the kids couldn’t enjoy it. The beach area is conveniently located directly behind the hotel and is very nice and very large. Lots of shells on this beach and the kids complained of walking on all the shells and getting shells stuck in their shorts...but they still had fun in the water. I would recommend getting a balcony, beach view room if available. Our room looked out over the roof and the view was not very attractive. Internet access is not free unless you log in at one of the downstairs restaraunts. Traffic getting to the hotel from the Tampa airport can get heavy when crossing the bridge to the island. Avoid the rush hour times, and you will be OK. Lot’s of places to eat on route 60 just prior to arriving in Clearwater. Avoid the north end of Clearwater Beach unless you like big crowds and lots of slow moving traffic! Overall, a nice place to stay and we would go back.

Traveler's tip on dining

If you want to eat at Crabby Bills, be prepared for long waits. Food there was ok, not great, but the lines are long. There are 2 Crabby Bills in the area, one near the circle on Clearwater beach and the other further south on the island near Indian Rocks. Get there before 5 and you should be OK.

Great location, great hotel, great service!

Loved this place, it has a great pool, it’s own large private beach with all the amenities you would expect from a Sheraton. We plan to return next year for our winter vacation.
