Excellent location, not much otherwise
I stayed in Hamburg several times over the last year, this hotel is a solid choice with nice rooms and nice windows that you can open (especially important for Hamburg if you like to sleep to sound of rain). The location is excellent, a short walk to almost any quarter, which makes for a nice selection of cafes to go for breakfast and a newspaper. Having said this, I don’t find anything special about Steigenberg to mention -- it is a large hotel with a lot of rooms and a lot of people, and that’s about it. Stay here if you are after great location. Choose something else if you are after identity of a place, and something less anonymous.
Traveler's tip on dining
there is a great small local place, right across from the exit -- turn right, cross street, and it’s there; blue sign saying Marienenbad or something similar. excellent herring, nice atmosphere, dined there a few times with friends, lovely tea and soups just as well
