pretty property at a remarkable value
3-day stay above the harbor, waiting for cruise ship to arrive. dismal cab ride from airport through less than pretty parts of funchal. turn through an entrance and you’re in another world. totally secluded, lovely grounds, beautiful room, views, no reason to leave the hotel. shuttle to funchal runs every two hours... take a cab to go into town. the one pc in the lobby was always busy. impressive spa is understaffed. busy bar area, formal dining room empty. both have great food. great service. incredible value for the venue. bring swimsuit for the pools.
Traveler's tip on recreational activities
head to gardens in monte palace at top of tram. spend several peaceful hours without shopping or eating. then take the "snowless tobogan." hysterical. some scary moments! not many. take cab back to town. 6km longer than one thinks.
