a great base in Mexico City
The Camino Real is an oasis in the midst of this overwhelming metropolis. Its location in the Polanco area is ideal. We walked to the Anthropology Museum and the Museum of Modern Art, found some nice cafes and restaurants just down the street, and could utiize both taxis and the Metro to get around. The hotel can be quite busy as it seems to be a convention destination, but the service at the housekeeping and room service level was prompt and friendly.
We spent time at La Ciudadela market on Balderas, a 10 minute walk from the Sheraton Centro Historico. The market has a great selection of handicrafts from all over the country at negotiable prices.

Best hotel to stay of going to Universal
The hotel is really 5 stars, the best thing we did was to stay there, you get the fast past included for the parks of Universal and Islands of Adventure, so it is not expensive, no driving. So the best. and the people there amazing...

Good choice!
Hotel is very nice. Restaurants are excellent. Safe in rooms did not work! Outside rooms are extremely noisy (traffic, honking, etc.). Service is very good.

Old but good
Iconic hotel designed by a famous architect. Worth seeing even though the rooms are starting to show their age. Service was fantastic. Ask for a room facing a courtyard as the main street rooms are noisy. A lot of great restaurants in the hotel but they cost more than a typical meal in Mexico City.

Relatively clean, friendly, cheap - services $$$$$$
Staff and room cleanliness were excellent. Cost on expedia was an outrageous deal. Loved the "modern" decor too. However, services (room service, restaurants, phone calls, internet, copies, etc.) were INSANELY expensive - thats where they get you. The area is also quite pricey, so you have little choice but to pay wherever you go in the neighborhood. Id recommend to those on an expense account or those who just dont care about the cost of services. Expedia does a great job for the room cost, all else is out of pocket - big time.

Very nice city hotel for leisure and business
Camino Real Polanco offers good and exclusive restaurants and night bars: Le Cirque, one of Mexico Citys most exclusive restaurants. Moon Bar, nice and hip outdoor bar. China Grill, hip restaurant.
Traveler's tip on dining
China Grill and Moon Bar are good addresses for dining and having drinks and cocktails.

A Pleasant Experience
Overall, the service, ambiance, and look of the Camino Real Polanco were great. However, I would not recommend this hotel to people who are on a budget for the restaurants and amenities of the hotel are pricey. The hotel is conveniently located in a part of the city that is close to all major tourist attractions such as the Zócalo, Museo Templo Mayor, Bellas Artes, El ángel de la Independencia and La COndesa. The Museo Nacional de Antropología e Historia and The Castillo de Chapultepec are only minutes away and within walking distance.

Excellent hotel.
Staying in El Camino Real was a great decision and an excellent experience for my husband and I. The service and the willingness of the staff were great. The room was very clean. The restaurants and the blue bar were very nice. No to mention the great and courteous service of the taxi drivers of the hotel those were very secure by the way. We definitely recommend this hotel and for our next trip to Mexico City well stay at El Camino Real again. We cant wait to go back
Great and safe place.

Great Place
Its a great luxurious hotel that doesnt feel too over the top, the rooms are spacious and quiet. The only con i can think of is the room service prices, way too expensive.

Will Definitely Come Back when in Mexico City
No complaints at all. Quick Check-in. Great Service, Great Location, Clean and Comfy Room. They played great music at the lounge located inside the hotel, but we did feel a bit under-dressed since most people were in slacks and dress shirts but there is no dress-code. Went to a music festival in Mexico City, quite a few bands were actually staying at the hotel. This is where we will be staying on our next trip to Mexico City.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
when getting a taxi from the hotel ask for a "taxi" not a private car from the hotel. It is a little cheaper.

There staff was very friendly and the room was nice but the beds were very unconfortable. They need to do a few updates. The location is not really convinent. It is far from all attractions.

I really love the hotel.
The hotel is in a great area. The different restaurants are really good and the food is well presented. It is really close to lots of great places like Liverpool, Museums (Must go to Chapultepec Castle). Night life is good too. It is one of the best areas in Mexico City.
The hotel is walking distance from several attractions. You can walk to the Tour bus and also the tour bus stops there early in the morning. The chapultepec castle and the different museums are really nice. Must take the trip to the sun and moon piramids too.

Very good hotel.
This hotel is very comfortable. I like it very much that their restaurants offer is good as they have very elegant restaurants as well as caffeterias to suits ones taste or mood. The bars are good too.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
Nearby are this little convenience stores where you can find snacks and drinks. Take some with you because the ones in your room are really expensive.

Mexico City in time of Flue Epidemic: Excellent Hotel Service
I stayed at Camino Real Mexico City (Polanco) in Anzures during the weekend and Monday of the flue epidemic and found the service to offer excellent service, including a private vehicle to airport to avoid contamination in public taxi after stay. The rooms are a bit dated, but that is the charm of the over all design. The restaurant (Bice) was open to me and my guest and served excellent fish and pasta with very good service. I have stayed at the hotel since 1974 but with about a 7 years break as not in Mexico City those last years. I would definitely return for good security, excellent location, excellent service and the interesting architecture. It has a nice pool area to sit in and a coffee bar upstairs from the lobby with reasonable lattes, comfortable sitting and four large TV screens to watch international news programs. Very close to shopping/restaurants in Polanco, Chapultepec Park for museums, and business in the Reforma area by taxi. I felt very comfortable and safe during the flue epidemic and hotel seemed to be taking every precaution but in a guest oriented way.
Traveler's tip on dining
The restaurant Bice has replaced the former Azulejos and Fouquets de Paris and had good food and good prices with excellent service. I didnt try the Centro Castellano, but its chef met me and told me he would prepare plates which were more general than Spanish if required. The coffee bar was pleasant place to hang out and have a latte and watch big screen TV in comfortable architectural style chairs.

Still the best hotel in Mexico City
I have stayed at the Camino Real Polanco many times since the late 1980s, but not for the last few years. It had not changed a bit, and it is still the best hotel in Mexico City.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Take a room on the Club floor, floor 5. It is definitely the best deal.

Beatiful Common Areas, Rooms need work, Overpriced amenities
Beatiful Well Kept Loby and Gardens, But rooms need work(Our room Door could be easily forced open), In-Room Safety Box didnt work (showed signs of having been tampered with, we reported it day 1, and it stayed the same over 4 night stay) Mini Bar Prices were 10 times those of convenience store across the street, Business Center Prices were 15 times those of Office Depot one block away. Internet service only available for daily rate even though the hotel page advertises hourly rates as well. Bice Restaurant charges a "cover" fee although not mentioned in menu and there was no live music or any special feature that could justify it.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
Do not miss: 1.- A visit to Teotihuacan 2.- Folkloric Ballet at Museo de Antropología 3.- Segway Tour of Historic Center
