Comfortable place to stay and very close to zoo!
I was a little leery about staying here because it was across the street from the hospital. The noise was not that bad at all. You do hear the sirens and street noise, but after a long day of playing at the zoo or Balboa you are so tired you cannot hear any of it at bedtime. My son was fascinated by the sirens so it worked out fine. The hotel was nice enough to give my son a basket of cookies for his birthday and have the staff sign a card for him. I thought that it was a nice gesture. The rooms were a bit worn down and the stove was OLD (we never used it), but it was cozy. Dont plan on watching too much TV because the reception is bad. Most of the channels do not come over clear. Parking is TIGHT! I think if they had a full hotel it would be a problem. The free breakfast was fine. They had boiled eggs, breads, make your own waffles, cereal and packaged muffins. Those were a great snack at the zoo. I did walk to CVS from the hotel. I dont think that is recommended at 8pm alone. As for location it was great. Close to everything. I would stay here again.
Traveler's tip on dining
Eat breakfast at Hash House a Go Go. It about a 2 minute drive from the hotel. Bring quarters as its metered parking. Food here is great and huge!

Pretty good
We stayed here as a couple with one friend on the couch in the king suite. It was pretty comfortable, there was a kitchen with big fridge and microwave and all the other stuff too. There is a wholefoods nearby. The AC gets REALLY cold. The negatives: parking lot is terrible, very cramped, so get a SMALL car! There is a weird funky smell all around the outside of place like pot and garbage, but the rooms were okay. Also, its not that close to the convention center, about a 10 min ride in the car, 10 dollar cab, and there is a bus but it only goes to 11pm. And if you like the gay community, its right in the middle of it :). We would defly return.
Traveler's tip on dining
There is a breakfast place called hash on the gogo which is great, but the portions are huge pieces of art, so plan for lots of leftovers...and there is usually a line or wait.
