Honeymoon at Hotel Maitai Polynesia

It is hard for me to even begin how fantastic everything was at the Hotel Maitai Polynesia. From the moment the hotel’s shuttle picked us up from the ferry that brought us to the main island to our last day, the service was spectacular. They understand travelers are coming a long way and have facilities available to freshen up if your room isnt quite ready yet. Despite a slight language barrier, we were able to communicate to reception what island activities we were interested in doing and they made every attempt possible to ensure we were happy despite how busy they were. Our hotel had a large book of the available activities and we picked which ones we wanted and when we wanted them. Expect to pay about $100 per person per activity. Unfortunately nothing is cheap on the island but you probably already spent a lot to get there in the first place. Everything the hotel staff did for us was also done with a smile and friendly attitude. If something wasnt available, they would go out of their way to help us find an alternative. Our bungalow over the water was more beautiful than we could have imagined and I would HIGHLY recommend spending the extra money to get one. They also had a great deals where breakfast and dinner were free (the food and service was fantastic) and free snorkeling and kayaking equipment that locked us into the hotel when we were deciding. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Bora Bora

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

There is so much to do on such a small island. Usually island activities (that can be booked through the hotel) fill up fast so its best to decide what you want to do on the first day for the rest of the week so you arent locked out of anything.

Maitai Polynesia Bora Bora

We just returned from our stay at the Maitai for 5 nights - 3 nights in overwater bungalow (OWB) (a must!) and 2 nights in garden view. The grounds are kept neat. We had heard the beach was small, but it was fine. New lounge chairs were present. The OWB was perfect. The deck was great - looked right out to the ocean with no one in your view. Although all OWB are close to each other at all resorts, we didn’t hear our neighbors and it was like we were are alone on the deck. The garden room was your basic room with a patio that overlooked the lobby building and you can actually see the ocean from the patio. Overall, the Maitai was great and we’d defintely stay again. Bikes (fee) and adapters and kayaks (free) were available for rent on site. "Coral gardens" are right out in front of the resort on the backside of the Sofitel motu - about a 15 minute kayak trip. Best snorkeling we say on Bora Bora was out at the coral gardens but the snorkeling right under all the OWB is great too - many variety of fish, not so much colorful coral as like in most places the coral is dying due to the water temps increasing. Lagoon is crystal clear most days (when no wind, can be windy this time of year) and warm like a bath but still refreshing. As I am sure you have heard, be prepared for the sticker shock before you go. Hamburgers $20, Drinks $15... it is just the price of heaven on earth! Don’t let the prices stop you from going (if you can afford to go), you’ll truly regret it.

Traveler's tip on dining

All major restaurants on Bora Bora (and most islands in French Polynesia) will pick you up from your hotel and return you, free of charge. This is a great way to get a variety of food, get away from your resort and see the island - for no extra charge for transportation. Tiare Market is less than 2 blocks away and you can get baquettes from $.50 USD and cold cuts, cheese, etc. Maitai didn’t seem to mind you stored these items in their fridge.mini bar.
