Apache Motel

The Apache Motel is an Historic Inn located in a quiet peaceful setting close to Mill Creek Parkway and numerous, shops, galleries, adventure companies and museums. We are the closest hotel to the world famous Slick Rock Bike Trail. Our motel is family owned and operated with world class friendliness and service. You can count on the amenities at our motel (large rooms, swimming pool, queen beds, hair dryer, shampoos, plush towel and bedding, free wireless hi-speed internet, buisness center, non-smoking rooms, extensive cable tv including Disney and HBO, refrigerators and microwaves in many rooms.) and all this for the price of a budget motel. While you stay, come down to the lobby and have a cup of hot chocolate, tea or coffee and learn about the history of the Apache and it's famous guest from our managers. John Wayne always Stayed here while making Western Movies in the area. In fact he stayed for months at a time in what is now the John Wayne Suite where he and Pilar and the kids spent many summer days and nights. We have preserved the John Wayne Suite in his honor and believe it to be the best suite in Moab. While in the lobby look over the preeminent volume of Western Film History. "Where God Put the West" and learn why John Ford, Henry Fonda, Anthony Quinn, Dorthoy Malone, Yvonne De Carlo and many others made the Apache their home away from home. In the last three years we have "spiffed up" the motel with new luxurious queen sized beds, new and extra lighting, new bedspreads which make our rooms, we believe, as good as any motor homes. Moab is the largest and nearest city to Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park and Dead Horse Point State Park. The Colorado River with rafting and river excursions runs by Moab's north end. Moab is according to most experts the best mountain biking area anywhere in the U.S. and the hiking and biking trails must be seen to be believed. Did I mention that we are friendly? Not Bad
It was nice be off the beaten path of the main street but this is a better hotel for a couple of people with mountain bikes. Nice pool. Breakfast was a couple of breakfast bars. Loved the owner and the old school feel of the place.

Only the Basics
This is a bare bones hotel. No coffe maker, microwave, or refridgerator. The room and bed linens were clean but the furniture was well worn. That was okay since we spent our days hiking in the parks and only used the room to sleep. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel is off the main drag and quiet. Ask for a room in back. They are larger than rooms in front.
Traveler's tip on recreational activities
The national parks surrounding Moab hold many incredible sights. Plan to spend a lot of time hiking. Because there are not a lot of campgrounds in the area, the city becomes a hopping place at night. As with other parks in Utah probably three out of every four tourist is from a foreign country. I never heard so many languages!
