Pleasant Surprise

After one night in a "Queen" (felt like a Full) size bed at The Benjamin, we were anxious to find a hotel with a King size bed! The Alex was only 6 blocks away, still in Midtown, and we were able to walk over there. The Alex is new and modern but very comfortable. Our room was decent size especially for New York and we had a very comfortable King size bed!!! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Take advantage of your Concierge! Ask them to get you on the list at a hot club or recommend a great place for dinner!

Was very impressed. The Alex was already recommended to me by a good source, so I knew I would get first class quality. Thanks and cannot wait to go back!

A Very Good Time in NYC

The staff was very accomodating and the location is great. My only complaint is that the room was a bit small and hot and we had trouble cooling it down. The bed was comfy and the hotel quiet. Yes, I’d return to it.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

NBC Studio Tour was great and the studio is down the street from the hotel. We also enjoyed going to the basement of the Plaza for the Viennese dessert shop. There’s a diner across from The Alex called Comfort Cup and it’s great.

Terrific hotel with excellent value

Having surfed for some affordable options (NY affordable) i was pleasantly surprised at just how nice The Alex is. There was a small lack of follow up on a dinner reservation with the concierge (not a big deal to us) and you had to call for ice for the rooms (again, small inconvenience) but the room was very cool, seemed very updated and very clean. The rooms are small but that is the case in NY and it was well within what i expected. Would absolutely go back. Great Pub next door too.

EXCELLENT

I stayed here for five nights and I was absolutely amazed how great the staff pampered me. I definitely recommend staying here. I was only six blocks from Time Square/Broadway. Everything was in walking distance.

Good option and good location in midtown but small rooms

We stayed at The Alex for the US Open and the proximity to Grand Central was great. There are plenty of restaurant and deli options in the area as well. Our room (studio suite) was quite small but adequate. The bathrobes were not in our room and the toilet was very difficult to flush. Bathroom was very small and cramped for a couple. The front desk staff, maintenance/housekeeping and bellmen were excellent, friendly and very professional. Fitness center was nice but room service was quite expensive (go out to eat!)

Great hotel, great location!

My husband and I went to NYC for the first time ever and had a wonderful time! The Alex has a great location. We are physically fit and found it very easy to walk just about every where (Times Square, Macys, Empire State Building, NYC Library, Central Park) if you don’t like walking, Grand Central Station is right down the street. We took an easy subway ride to Battery Park from there and then walked to Wallstreet after a trip to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. Our bed was very comfortable and our room was a good size. I loved the rain fall shower! Wifi cost $15, which seemed absured, but I have a blackberry and they offer a computer room with use of three computers free of charge. Printing is also free. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We could see the Chrysler building from our room! Great hotel!

Alex Hotel

Good little hotel in Mid-Town.

Highly recommended

A high end hotel on a quiet street but within walking distance to attractions like Rockefeller Center, Times Square and Grand Central Station. Conceirge helped us find a wonderful Steakhouse to celebrate our Anniversary. We got a great deal. Well worth the stay and will stay there again next time in NYC.

Fabulous for the price!

We stayed in this hotel for 7 nights, it was very convenient to all of NYC! Very modern, clean, friendly staff, great concierge, an overall amazing stay! We will definately stay againg when in NY!

Buy the NYC city pass...great deal, and saves time in lines at attractions. Show tickets, goto box office or call, great seats, great price, little or no service fees.

Loved the Hotel, don’t eat at the restaurant

Loved the chic European style! We had a great view and were very comfortable. The concierge was amazing! Also liked being close to Grand Central Station and away from the craziness of Times Square.

The attached restaurant wasn’t that great and service was really slow for the small amount of people eating. I would recommend any one of the other thousands of restaurants in NYC.

Hospitality at its best!

The people at the hotel were so nice and accommodating. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again!

Great service

This is on a quiet street, close to all the action -just a few blocks from Grand Central Station. The staff was great and very accommodating. The rooms are designed with a lot of storage so the smallest of rooms are perfect for shorter stays. The executive suites are like a NYC apartments (full kitchen, living area, small office area and bedroom w/ walk-in closet. The small bar off the lobby has some great drinks!

Great Stay!

The service at the Alex was very friendly. They upgraded our room so we had a little more space. Everyone on staff was polite and courteous. Location was great - 2 blocks from Grand Central Station. Only complaint was the concierge’s choice for an Italian restaurant where the pasta entrees were pretty bad. We really had a great stay and would recommend this hotel.

Could be better for the price

Great location. Desk and door staff very attentive. However, I booked a king and was at first given a double bed. I had to ask for a change. Housekeeping was inconsistent when replacing number of towels. I got two shower mats one day! There was no clock/radio alarm (I hate being woken by phone call). Once, the wake up call was 15min late. Also, no outlet available at bedside for charging my phone or to use as an alarm. Wooden bed frame stuck out past the mattress and I dinged my shin on the corner several times and have the huge bruises to prove it. Picture quality on the television was very poor. The location is great, but the room just ok for the price. However, I would consider staying here again.

The Amish Market across the street is a great place to pick up breakfast or dinner for your room. Close to the U.N., Grand Central, and convenient to many other East Side attractions.

I could not take a shower due to broken down. And one of room lamp did not work. Receptionist had not hospitality.

Maybe its the economy, but the staff went way above and beyond to make sure everything about my stay was perfect.

Excellent service

The service was excellent at this charming, boutique hotel within walking distance of the UN and Grand Central Station. My room was small, as expected for the area, but nicely appointed and the staff were outstanding.

OVERPRICED HOTEL, ARROGANT STAFF AND POOR SERVICE

BAD EXPERIENCE, NEVER AGAIN!

Not impressed at all, we were expecting a different kind of service

After 4 days stay we found several inconsistencies in their services, one day hand towels were missing, no wake up called was provided after has been requested, cleanness in room was performed really different each day. Upon arrival we requested additional hangers and other items which were never brought, we called and the answer was "let me see if we can do something" we personally gave a letter to the Hotel manager 2 days after our departure nothing happened, nothing changed the same poor service was experience. this is not a New York style hotel at all.

One of the Best Hotels in the City and not too Expensive!!

My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and our stay at the Alex was Great! Although quite small the room was clean and comfy! Great front door and front desk service! Always greeted with a smile and they even press the button at the elevator for you! Will definitely stay here again!

Too small for the money

The hotel was disappointing. It didn’t look nearly as nice as the online photos. The room was very small; fitting two people would be a squeeze. The staff were very friendly. Room service prices were ridiculous. Location was good, but I wouldn’t stay there again. Too many other choices in NYC.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

The Amish Market is across the street and a few steps away from the hotel. Great selection of hot and cold food and gourmet items at reasonable prices. Great for taking out dinner after an exhausting day of seeing NY and eating in front of the TV.
