Disappointed
Check-in and check-out was met by an unwelcoming woman at the front desk. Room was a good size and clean. However, the noise at night was too much. Construction in the hotel was loud and started early in the morning. Some hallway lights worked, some did not.

Not perfect but not to shabby
I was rather amazed at the number of people who where staying in the hotel. From the outside, it doesnt seem like it could possibly hold that many people. Overall it was perfect for myself and my boyfriend. If you wanted your room clean then hang the sign on your door. If not, turn the sign around and hang it on your door. Our bed was nice and comfy. If I needed help with something I can ask the front desk and depending on whos servicing, you would get all the help you can possibly need. One manager in particular, and I forgot his name, was quite helpful and friendly at that. He diserves a raise. The free continental breakfast could use a little work, but hey, it was free and anything free taste good. Also, being in the heart of everything wasnt so bad either. Right around the corner are the shops, pubs, and restaurants. Perfect location. Overall, I definately recommend this hotel if youre planning a visit to Galway.
Traveler's tip on dining
We fell in love with this great little restaurant called Druid Lane. Its in the Quay if Im correct. Its around the corner from the hotel, you just keep walking down past the shops, hippie street performers, and the happy, drunk people and youll find it. Its small but cozy, and the food is absolutely great. The service was personal and friendly. I recommend the mussels, thai fish cakes, and the chicken (although I forgot what exactly the dish is called but it was gooooood).

convenient location
Hotel was conveniently located to the main tourist areas and though the breakfast wasnt elaborate it was sufficient and meant I didnt have to wander around looking for a place before I could start exploring the town and nearby sites. Pillows were a little hard.

Right on Eyre Square
The Imperial is not the grandest building in the world, but it is in one of the best locations in the world, with fine desk service and an excellent pub/restaurant attached.

Great stay in galway
We were extremely satisfied with this hotel. The rooms were exceptionally large and quite clean. Great location right on Eyre Square. They didnt offer a full irish breakfast but still a very good buffet spread. if you want a great irish breakfast its across the way at the Skeff. Otherwise a fantastic spot.

Its Ok - Just Ok
The best thing about the Imperial Hotel is its location. An easy walk across Eyre Square from the train station and just adjacent to the city center places it close to most any place you might want to go. The rooms are servicable, if a bit dated and faded. Wireless internet is only available in the common areas on the ground and 1st floor. Its a good thing Blakes Bar is one of those places -- a warm and friendly space, its one of those rare hotel bars that attracts locals, making for a nice mix of conversation around the room. Too bad the staff almost always seemed preoccupied and sometimes even surly.
Traveler's tip on dining
McDonaghs Fish & Chips was a huge disappointment: Tasteless fish encased in a tough, chewy batter with limp and bland chips. Id not go back. Martines Quay Street Winebar, though, was a huge surprise. Properly attentive and careful service, with a wonderfully flavorful lamb stew, priced fairly.
