centrally located. great service. excellent breakfast buffet.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the ortygia/syracusa area. The staff was pleasant and helpful. The room was clean, comfotable and spacious. The bathroom was large enough for 2 people and the shower worked fine. The air conditioning was a major plus in the Augusut heat. Centrally located in the heart of Ortygia, very close to major attractions, restaurants and shopping, this is the hotel for a beautiful vacation.

The Roma is a gem, with prime location and a wonderful staff.
The Roma is located right behind the Piazza del Duomo, site of the main cathedral (which is built on the remains of a Greek temple). This is the main piazza on the island of Ortigia, a stunning place. The Roma has undergone a beautiful restoration, with elements of the buildings history melded into what is a modern hotel. Each room that forms the hotel lobby is an architectural gem and the guest rooms are relatively large and very clean. There is nothing second rate about this place. The staff was courteous and offers of assistance genuine. The restaurant offerings were first rate and the breakfast buffet was not to be believed, with a huge, fresh selection; protein and carbs in a form that you are not likely to forget! I cannot say enough about how comfortable the staff made us feel -- concern about our comfort and happiness would be an understatement.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
Take the time to look around at the food options. We ate at several smaller trattorias that were very reasonable and made the strong Euro much easier to deal with. And, stroll down to the open air market in the morning near the Temple of Apollo and get some blood oranges. These are the best in the world!

Nice time in Siracusa
Hotel Roma was fabulous as was Ortygia. We would highly recommend staying on Ortygia as it has more everything than the main land Siracusa. Our room had a venetian balcony from which you could see the back side of the cathedral and part of the square. Breakfast was great (fantastic espresso). The hotel has valet and a nearby parking garage. Staff was helpful (impeccable English). FYI Signage and street widths on Ortygia are non existant we ended up circling the island 3X to find one-way via Roma - on first two drive bys it looked like a pedestrian street.
