Upscal hotel and restaurant

Waterfront Place is a well run and attractive hotel and our preferred stay when we visit our son at WVU. My only complaint would be the beds. The mattresses are very soft and we had trouble sleeping and woke with stiff backs. The restaurant is excellent and so is the service. We have recommend ed this hotel to our friends.

Should have offered complimentary....

I stayed there on a Friday and Saturday night. On Friday night there was a fire alarm at 2 am and I was on the 9th floor. Fortunately it was a false alarm. They did have a good siren and voice alert system. The fire trucks did arrive and they checked the electrical system, etc. Getting back to the room at about 2:45 meant that I did not get back to sleep until after 5 and missed parted of an early morning planned week end event. Saturday night I left a wake up call for 5:30 am as I had a flight from Pittsburgh at 9:30. Fortunately for me I had my bags packed by the door because there was a fire alarm at about 4 am. I was fortunately enough to have someone help me down the 9 flights of stairs with luggage because I could not depend upon it being a false alarm and being able to get back into the room for the luggage to drive to Pittsburgh. I do feel when a guest has been inconvenienced two nights in a row there should have been some courtesy compensation--discount coupon, free meal, etc. Nothing was forthcoming.

A mini refrigerator & microwave in the room would have made it perfit.

Nice Hotel, Great Value

We recently had a 4 night stay here. It is a very nice hotel. Very few problems. The phone on the desk didn’t work and could not be replaced and the door for the closet was difficult to open and close. Otherwise, nothing wrong and any requests made to staff were immediately taken care of. Did not use restaurant, bit pricey for us. Parking should be free for those staying at the hotel. Would stay here again if returning to Morgantown. And for the price, it was a great value. Not close enough to downtown area for us to walk, as it rained quite a bit during stay. Purpose of trip was visitation day for West Virginia University.

NICE!!!

This hotel has the feel of a big city hotel in a small city location. It has a nice river walk and a couple of good restaurants (within close walking distance) near the hotel plus two bars and one restaurant in the hotel. I do wish hotels/motels would find sheets that tuck down under the bed if they must use those huge mattresses. My sheets kept coming off the corner of the bed all night long.

Great hotel in Morgantown

It is a great hotel in Morgantown. The hotel is very well maintain. And the location is great. Love this hotel for the price that we are paying.

Needs some work...

This was the first time I had stayed in this hotel in 5 years. My room had a funny smell to it, almost smoky even thugh it was a non-smoking room. When yu went downstairs to use the pool the whole hallway was smoky like someone was standing in front of the door outside and the smoke was being sucked in. The carpet outside my room in the hallway has ripples in it and is a trip hazard. However, the staff was very friendly and the food in the restaurant was good. The pool/hottub were great.I would stay again after some improvements are made.

Nice and convenient for WVU visits

Hotel had everything we needed. Conveniently located across the driveway from WVU Visitor Center. Employees efficient and friendly. Room was very spacious. Room service was prompt and food was still warm. Spa and fitness center were nice and functional. Only two suggestions: Lighting in the bathroom was unusually low. And shower pressure could have been stronger.

Morgantown’s Best

This hotel has been recently renovated. It’s located on the waterfront just south of the campus. Top rate services, and easy walking distance to new, trendy restaurants (Boathouse Bistro food was amazing). Easily walkable to campus (if you don’t mind the hills). There is a walking path along the river right outside the hotel.

Not What It Used To Be

Since this hotel became independent (used to be a Radisson), it has gone downhill very fast. We were put in a smoking room despite requesting non-smoking. Cable TV did not work, lights were burned out, room service was terribly slow, and the valet was unorganized. This used to be the only place we stayed when we were in Morgantown, now we will be looking elsewhere. Very disappointing.

Really nice place to stay. Clean hotel, right by the water. Courteous staff.

great pillows

We like this hotel because the pillows are great and the beds are too. We also like the pool and hot tub. The only thing we really didn’t like was the waiting in the resturant for someone to notice that you want seated and there were only a few tables being used. Resturant had water spotted glasses and smudged silverware. The rest of the hotel is great. Room service is better than the resturant.

Great Hotel

First class! We were visiting the University and this was easily the nicest hotel in the area. The restaurant was excellent and the hotel was lovely.

Nice Hotel

This was a nice hotel. Everyone was friendly, parking was nearby and in a nice parking garage. Customer service was great. An example: although we checked out at noon we needed to leave the car for a few extra hours, the front desk clerk offered to extend our parking until later in the day without charging us any additional fees (nice touch). Hotel is in a safe area and within walking distance of some nice restaurants. If we ever visit Morgantown again, we will choose this hotel.

Some restaurants we visited while in Morgantown that we would also suggest. La Casa (right behind the hotels parking garage down by the river). Black Bear (laid back atmosphere and great if you’re looking for a nice choice of vegetarian food, but they have meat dishes too). Blue Moose Cafe (had a good breakfast, good coffee and a great atmosphere)

A pleasant surprise in the hills of WV.

I travel considerably on business and leisure, and I found this to be a very nice "new" hotel that is definitely worth the 2-mile drive off the interstate. My wife and I were both extremely impressed with the size and cleanliness of the rooms, and the bath alone was the size of most hotel rooms in Manhattan. The restaurant’s decor was interesting and the food was good, and the bar was nicely done with lots of dark wood in an upscale New York-style night club. Will definitely stay here again the next time through WV.

Waterfront at Christmas

We stayed at this hotel for three nights over Christmas, and were very pleased with everything about our stay. Despite having to work over the holidays, all of the staff were courteous and gracious, and the three breakfasts we had there were delicious and fresh and well-prepared. We were concerned that they would have limited staff and services available due to the holiday, but we felt welcomed and well cared for. I had organized and attended my high school reunion at this hotel 2 years prior, and was impressed with it at that time, and that is why I chose it for this trip. Wonderful stay.

Very Impressed

The Waterfront Place Hotel was a very pleasant surprise. I would give them high marks for their excellent accommodations, customer service, amenities and friendliness. Their restaurant and bar also provided good cuisine and personal service. Expedia also provided very good rates for such excellent accommodations. The staff will try to accommodate any special requests if possible.

Traveler's tip

Internet web maps do not really resolve correctly for many streets in Morgantown thus making it a bit difficult to find your first original destination. However, the local people seem to be very informed of the location of places and very willing to help you get almost anywhere so it is not really a deterrent. Obtaining instructions from the hotel (or other original destination if the hotel is not your first stop) would be prudent. After that the staff can help you with directions.
