Great location, but you get what you pay for
This hotel is in a fabulous location for visiting nearby hutongs, antique markets, and a short cab ride to the Shanghai tan (expat eateries, shopping, etc) and the Bund. There is construction going on like crazy getting ready for the World Expo, but the constructions sounds werent heard by us way up on our floor (I think it was the 12th). It was just a little messy getting in and out of the hotel. The hotel staff were mostly helpful, but we really didnt spend much time there, which was our goal. If you want a hotel with lots of amenities and cushy lounges, etc. this is not the hotel for you. Its very plain and well used, but you also dont have to pay a lot to stay here, so if you want a great location and dont care too much about frills, this is a great place to stay, but we will probably opt for paying a little more next time since there are other hotels in the neighborhood that I think will be a little bit nicer.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
The infamous Bund is totally under construction right now due to the World Expo, so dont plan on walking or eating along the river - its all boarded off. There are lots of other cool things to do and see in Shanghai though.

Not bad
The location of the hotel is ok. the nearest metro station is 5 minutes walk. The computers in the business centre are really old and slow. The location of the hotel makes you feel like you are inside the suburbs.
Traveler's tip on shopping
Near the hotel there are hundreds of small pet stores where you can get a delicious grashopper.

Driveway construction a problem
Upon arrival I saw an excavation right in front of the hotel-this made it difficult for taxis to drop off and pickup passengers. The mattress in my room was much too hard for me. Some of the towels had holes in them and were worn out. The business centers computers were too slow to be of use. The room was kept clean and the breakfast was quite adequate. English language capability of the front desk was uneven. They booked me on a Chinese speaking excursion which turned out to be a "bust" because I do not speak Chinese. When I complained they gave me a $7 refund. The trip cost $40.
