Good hotel and location for Cairns exploration
Only stayed 2 nights overall, one night upon arrival and one night upon departure in Cairns, but was very satisified with hotel as a place to stay that is convienient to airport and Cairns activities. Would not recommend as a base camp for an extended period of time to visit areas north or south of Cairns, but perfectly fine for any stay or activities in Cairns directly.
Traveler's tip on dining
Absolute highlight of stay was the Bayleaf Balinese Restaurant attached to the hotel. One of the best meals we had on our entire holiday while in Queensland. It is a little expensive, but certainly well worth it for a delicious meal and atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Nice hotel, only stayed one night due to travel plans
The Bay Village Tropical Retreat was a very nice hotel. Not sure I would call it a "retreat", but nice, none the less. We were only there one night, since it was just a stop over on our way to Port Douglas. The bed was comfortable. The air con worked good. The shower was nice (one of the best ones on our trip). Breakfast was good and reasonably priced.
Traveler's tip on recreational activities
If you are flying into Cairns and going to Port Douglas you should try to catch a shuttle directly to Port Douglas. They have shuttles running as late as 10pm (maybe even later). We did not know this. We stayed in Cairns thinking we would not be able to catch a shuttle until the next day. Had we known the shuttles ran so late, we would have planned our trip to go directly to Port Douglas.
