absolutely fabulous

Our family of 5 just spent 9 days at the Islands at Mauna Lani. What a luxurious and fabulous complex! We stayed in a 2 bedroom condo. We had more than enough room, and we could walk out across our grassy back yard onto the golf course, and across to shopes and restaurants, or out to a pool and beautiful hot tub we shared with other condos in the gated complex. A short drive or 15 minute walk to an amazing snorkeling beach, better than most we have ever seen, was in one direction, and a short drive or walk to the Mauna Lani beachfront hotel complex with tide pools, sea turtles, pool/hot tub/lavish hotel grounds in the other. The two beaches are a ten minute walk from one another past palm trees, koi ponds, eels and lava formations. Amazing. The trip was expensive but worth every penny for a truly luxurious getaway. The only thing that was frustrating was that the Mana Lani hotel complex won’t let the Islands (condo) guests charge to their room while at their beach, pool or restaurants. It would have been nice not to carry cash or credit cards for incidentals. The golf course was so gorgeous, ocean, lava, mountains capped with snow. The staff could not have been more helpful. We loved the basket of groceries (bread, fruit, milk, eggs, jelly, juice) in the room on arrival.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Eat at Ruth’s Chris, early bird special 5-6. Roy’s was superb fish dinner. Rent snorkeling stuff at the beach.Go snorkeling at the Islands, we paid $100/person for a wonderful boat trip to Captain Cook monument, loved it but saw the same stuff off the beach for "free." See Hapuna Beach. This is famous surfing beach,AMAZING waves. Stay out of Kona except to grocery shop. More touristy, less quiet and relaxing. Go to the Four Seasons one night for cocktails or appetizers. WOW.

It is a very nice place

We liked the place in Hawaii on Big Island. It is a nice resort. Beautiful location, very different layout, good golf course look.

Quiet and peaceful

Condo was beautiful and spacious. It had everything we needed. A great place to stay with a family. There were 5 of us and we never felt crowded. The only noise was the sound of the birds in the morning. It was very quiet and peaceful. It was also nice to have a washer/dryer. The only problem was mosquitos. Bring lots of bug spray.
