great hotel-excellent pub

The staff was so friendly, kind, and helpful. We arrived in Dublin at 11am, and did not expect our room to be ready, we just went there to store our suitcases so we could walk around Dublin for the day. Lo and behold, both our rooms were ready and we checked in early and caught a nap before spending the afternoon touring. A great pub is connected to the hotel. It is within walking distance of city centre, and the desk clerk was so helpful in assisting us with maps and bus routes. And it’s far from the noise of the temple bar area.

Grand place to stay

Good location,it was just about 15 min walking distance to Trinity College. The staff were very nice and the staff in the pub at the hotel were fantastic!! The only real grip is it cost 1 euro for 8 mins to use the computer...thats way over priced. In the UK, it’s 1 pound for 20 mins. None the less, I would stay there again and would recommend to my friends & family. I will also put pictures and put my review on Tripadvisor. Thank You

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Dublin is wonderful, but you must take a day trip(s) outside of Dublin...its just fantastic. The people giving the tour are wonderful, sites are so beautiful and it’s not that expensive. I want to go back and see other areas. The irish are very nice people and are very helpful. They make you feel welcomed. I enjoyed my visit and must go back.

Grand Canal in March

My room was in the back of the hotel, so I heard service personnel at night discussing all manner of complaints regarding clients in the hotel to hotel supervision, and relationship issues. The trash compactor was operated at anywhere between 12:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. in the morning, not to mention recycling sorting that was being conducted every time the trash was brought out. The cleaning service started at 8:30 in the morning so trying to sleep in was impossible. The hair dryer was bolted down inside a desk drawer in the sleep quarters and the cord would not stretch to the mirror which made it impossible to see what you were doing with your hair style.

Traveler's tip

Don’t forget that electrical outlets are different in Ireland than in the US, you’ll need a different outlet adapter.

better then expected

the hotel is walking distance to downtown dublin, is next door to the dart (dublin fast rail to get up and down the irish coast) and walking distance to the rds - the walks are 15-25minutes. the hotel is clean, the staff is very helpful and the rooms compare with an average american hotel. the food in the restaurant was only adequate which encourages you to eat elsewhere. we did tea in our room in the am or ate breakfast out, it did not come as part of the package. if i were to go to dublin again i would not hesitate to stay here.

Traveler's tip on dining

on sat night in dublin stay downtown to eat. for some reason all the pubs on the outskirts seem to close or offer no food or offer pizza only. downtown you may need reservations to get in since it is a big night for hen parties/bachelor parties to be out and about.

Nice hotel, but needs to improve customer service

The hotel was clean and well maintainted and the rooms were spacious. Overall, the stay there was fine except for the fact that the hotel staff was not helpful at all in answering simple questions about the area. In addition, my father-in-law who stayed there as well booked his room directly through the hotel and was told if he wanted an early check in on the day he arrived he would need to book the hotel for the night before. He did this only to find his room not available when he arrived, but was still charged for that night. All in all it is a nice hotel with a lot of potential, but poorly organized with an unhelpful staff. Plus breakfast is not included and overpriced. Avoid both restaurants if possible.

great for the price

for the price...location....great location in a good part of dublin...it was fine. great for tourists who will get up early and be gone all day. i was there for work. i work late into the night and need to sleep half the day. for this, it was not good. very noisy. i was on the backside of the hotel. they had deliveries of the "kegs"-metal barrels in the mornig. not fun to wake up to.

Good Choice

The hotel is new, clean and well-located. There is some noise at night, depending what room you are in. And, for me, the mattresses were too soft. But I would reccomend it.

Great Hotel with Parking

This hotel was very nice, rooms were spacious and beds were very comfortable. There also was onsite complimentary parking which is not easy to find in Dublin. Hotel is located in a quiet part of town with a bit of walk to pubs and attractions but we did not mind the walk.

Don’t stay in a single

I had requested a double, but when I arrived the reception apologized for only having a single. I am 5"7" and my feet were hanging over the end of the bed and the beds seemed more like a toddler bed width wise. The regular policy of the maids was to leave the window open after servicing... in windy, pouring rain conditions. The room was impossible to warm up.

Good mid-range stop-over

The Grand Canal Hotel serves as a good moderately-priced springboard for a quick trip. The location is not quite city-center, but that fact affords more quiet and upscale-leaning quality for the room price. City center reached via an easy-paced 30 min walk along the River Liffey with many historical attractions en route, or a 15 min bus or cab ride. Good-sized, clean room; friendly, helpful staff; decent full Irish breakfast buffet (additional cost). Only complaint about the room itself was the lack of individual control over the heating; ended up sleeping with the window open to regulate the room temp.

Very happy!

I was very happy with my recent stay. I found the hotel very clean and quiet. The rooms were very comfortable and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I was very impressed with the level of security, which required you to swipe a room key before you could press your the button for your floor in the elevator. One note: DO NOT believe the hotel staff when they tell you that it is a ten minute walk into town. At a good clip, it is 20-25 minutes, but it is an easy walk with lots to see. However, there is a DART station nearby which will get you there for 1.40 Euro. I would definitely stay in this hotel again and recommend it to friends and family.

Grand Canal Hotel Dublin Ireland

This Hotel has a good and fast service for checking in and out. The rooms are a good size and very clean and quite new. There is a bar in the hotel which serves food, which is good if you are in a rush and don’t have the time to go else where. There is also a breakfast room which has the usual choices.

Traveler's tip on local attractions
