Good location, Lousy service
Hotel describes itself as having internet in room. In truth you have to purchase a ridiculously expensive card for one hour of use which doesn’t usually work. No refund available. Hotel staff not service oriented. Taxi service dishonest , no receipts available. The best quality hotel in Khao Sun area, and they know it.

Good location, maybe a little pricey for the area
The viengtai has an excellent location, close enough to Khao San to enjoy it, but far enough away to escape the noise when you want to sleep. My room was clean and comfortable and had exactly what I needed from a lower midrange hotel. The staff was very polite and courteous and helped me with various questions, including setting up a new SIM card, since I couldn’t read the instructions that were only in Thai. There are two travel agents located in the lobby which are handy to have when you decide to take a day trip at the last minute and perhaps want to hire a driver. Breakfast is a large style buffet and does include some American items like pancakes and syrup. Overall I gave the ViengTai 4 stars because I still think it’s a little pricey for the area. But then again, I dont think there’s any other real hotel this close to Khao San, so there’s no competition. I will definitely stay at the Viengtai again when I return to Bangkok.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
Dont hire the taxi at the hotel. Their set rates are much too high. Flag any taxi off the street and really pressure them to use their meter or negotiate significantly to get a decent deal. As an example, the metered rate to the Weekend market was around 80 baht, but the hotel taxi wanted 150.
