Not very impressed!

Although the staff is helpful but the condition of the hotel is not to the standard of 3 stars.

The good and the bad

If you are booking in East Jerusalem, the Addar provides a classy (if worn) alternative to the sterile tourist megahotels to the west (e.g., Olive Tree) and the very pricey American Colony. I liked the management, and the space in the suite, but hope that they will spiff things up a bit.

A guide who knows the parts of the country you want to see is quite important. I hired private driver/guides for about $200/day. Everyone seems to take USD, and some to prefer them. Many prefer cash. Because of divisions within the country, you will need Palestinian guides for some places and Israeli guides for others. Some of the Christian holy sites seemed like tourist traps. However, I had very moving experiences at the Garden Tomb, Jacob’s Well (Nablus), and Bethlehem

You’d better choose another one...

From the very first moment, we we were not satisfied with the hotel. When we arrived, our room was not prepared and we had to wait for it. The front office desk clerk was very bad mannered and behaved in an inappropriate way to the guests. The hotel is not very well maintained, the lobby bar and the rooms are quite dusty. The room (suite) is confortable and adequate for a short stay. The hotel is not close to the city centre, the nearest major point is the Damascus gate. The neighborhood does not look really nice, but not ugly either. There are some other hotels nearby. It is important to know that it is a Palestian-run hotel and all the staff are Arabs. All in all, the stay was slightly unpleasant and we would not return there, but if one goes there, nothing horrible will happen to them.
