Very Disappointed

This was out 4th visit to the hotel and we were very disappointed. They have let the condition of the hotel slip. We had hot water for less than 50% of the time. The air conditioning in our room did not work at all. It was just a fan running rather than any cold air. They also closed all but one restaurant on the hotel premises. We we forced to eat at the two expensive restaurants on either end of the hotel property. Absolutely love the golf course, however, I don’t know if we would return unless something is done to address these issues.

The golf course is really very pretty and very enjoyable to play. Very good conditions and very playable.

Beautiful Resort

Great hotel, close to the airport, Beautiful and Enormous resort, if your looking for beautiful views and an endless horizon than this is the place to go.

Laid-back eco hotel with mainly Europeran clientele

The hotel is nice, but pay attention to the "Eco" label. The buildings are 3 story high, motel type with exterior corridors. The room and bath are nice, but the furniture is old and not well maintained, the mini bar is locked and serviced by outside company, the AC is ancient and noisy, and the TV is archaic. The pool and lobby are nice. The beach is beautiful, but in the winter it is very windy and it rains often - plan to enjoy it at most half of the days. The water is shallow and light blue, but with a lot of debries from the palms on the beach (looks dirty even though it is natural). Part of the beach has a muddy bottom from dead corrals (not very pleasant to walk on). Overall a beautiful place but definitely not a 4 star experience.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

take advantage of breakfast buffet because thats the best food they have there. the restaurants are expensive and the food taste bad. I recommend taking the shuttle to the shopping center and eating there instead.

View and service were great, accomodations and food need help

This hotel is beautiful, rooms, environment, everything is impeciably kept. However, the beds were so uncomfortable the marble floors were better. The food was the same, the italian restaurant had shells in the seafood pasta. The same food is served day after day at the restaurants. The food at La Cana is slightly below average. There are a lot of flies,as it is open, the fruits and meats are not kept cold enough so they are slimey and very unappetizing to look at, never mind eat. The service was great!! Waitstaff was excellent and very helpful. They deals to and from the hotel for VIP service are a scam. Taking a regular taxi is cheaper and just as efficient. VIP service is only one way from the airport to the hotel.

Great place!

We just came back from our vacation at the Puntacana Hotel, BEST TIME EVER! Great beach and quiete location, great for couples and families, definitely go back soon! We had a great time there. Staff were great and restaurants overall good, prices are a little high and food was ok. We enjoyed every minute.

Great place to visit, bad acomodations!

Punta Cana is really a paradise. A great place to spent vacations days. The layout of the hotel is great with a lot of respect for the ecosystem and amazing views. The down side is the food, service and accomodations. The menus are very limited and very poor prepared. The service, with some exceptions, is in general deficient. The rooms are big, but empty, with the minimun of the ammenities that you can expect.

The Casita we stayed in was roomier and enjoyed the location near the beach and pool. We stayed in a motel room one night before leaving to reduce cost. The room was OK, but the beds were not as comfortabe as in the Casita. We really didn’t spend much time in our room other than to sleep, because there is so much to do and it is such a beautiful setting we wanted to be out enjoying all there is to do.

We were there for a destination wedding with a party of about 35. Everyone seemed to enjoy the walk in the lagoon area and being out on the ocean in the kayak’s and sailing, too. Such a beautiful place.

Overrated

This hotel has beautiful grounds and is quite peaceful, but after hearing what fantastic treatment they give you, I was not impressed. We only stayed an overnight, but really didn’t see anything to rave about (other than the landscape). The beach is rocky though. Breakfast buffet was not impressive, service was TERRIBLE (only my husband appeared to be noticed by any wait staff- I did not get any offers for coffee, nor did my dirty dishes get picked up) and the food was not even hot.

The trail through the lagoons is very nice, but make sure you are well covered in bug spray!

Bring your slippers!!!

My daughter and I recently spent a weekend in Punta Cana at the Punta Cana Hotel. We had a great time there. The hotel was beautiful, the greenery was fantastic, and the beach was great. My only concern with this hotel is the air conditioning. Granted, it was nice that they had it due to the heat, etc., but it was set very high and everything fogged up when you would walk outside. I had difficulty finding the temperature controls and getting it to a decent temp. In the meantime, I had to open the patio door to get some type of "warmth" in. Of course, now the floor had moisture collecting on it. Thank goodness I had extra towels! Don’t forget a pair of slippers. The floor gets cold and in this case, wet. Staff were very pleasant and willing to help. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone.

I found that it was more convenient to eat at restaurants outside the resort. There are some nice ones. Just ask at the desk!

Beautiful Resort, Rooms Leave Something to be Desired

The Punta Cana Resort is beautiful, the grounds are well maintained and the beaches are gorgeous. The wait staff and housekeeping staff was wonderful, everyone was very nice! However, the guest services and front desk personnel often did not have answers to questions or could not understand English well enough to comprehend our question. Rooms were alright. We had a deluxe suite with two floors, two balconies, and a king bed. Upon arriving and removing our shoes it took about two minutes of walking on the marble floors for our feet to be black due to dirt and sand on the floor. The dead bolt to our room did not work at all and no one arrived all week to fix it after our request upon our arrival. The night before our last day we had a cockroach in our room that crawled into the couch and upon removing the cushions in order to kill the bug, we found old cockroach skeletons. We didn’t say anything about it since we were leaving the next morning. A big disappointment that the pool closed at 6:00 p.m. daily since we were under the impression they were open 24 hours based on Expedia’s information. The beautiful weather and gorgeous scenery made up for mediocre accommodations and the significant language barrier.

Be sure to bring high SPF sunscreen with you; it averages about $25 (US) for a small bottle in the gift shop. No money is accepted on the resort other than tips or at the gift shop, everything else must be charged to your room so don’t bring bills larger than $50s, $20s preferably because it is extremely difficult to find someone to break them down and the gift shop will not accept American bills much larger than your total purchase. Bring lots of $1s for tips, they expect them.

NOT a good choice!

I thought this hotel was farely decent looking. But once we stayed there were realized it was not at all what we expected. It was desolate, but still the staff wasn’t accomodating or pleasant. They acted as if we were bothering them when we had questions. Although this is one of the closest hotels to the airport it was not a good location to stay due to the fact that there was nothing around it but barron land. When their restaurants closed (and that was early) there was nowhere within 40min to get food. The overall selection of things to do was very minimal also. I would recommend if you are used to being treated well and having options on your vacation that you not stay there.

A wonderful paradise for family of 4!

We just returned from relaxation at the Punta Cana Resort. I was dubious based on the reviews, but it was fabulous!!! I wonder if previous complaints are based on the fact that the staff’s English is limited. Remember that this is a devleoping country, and the hotel is doing a good thing by hiring locals! Take along a spanish/english dictionary. I had requested transport from the airport ($35 round trip), and there was someone waiting for us when we got off the plane!!! We didn’t get the room we expected (working with Expedia on that), but they quickly moved us! There is a beautiful kids pool that was perfect for our 4 yr old twins. They played safely for hours in their. The main pool is beautiful as well!!! The beaches are incredible. One drawback was that it wasn’t all inclusive and the dining options for lunch and dinner are somewhat limited. We made do though and thoroughly enjoyed it. The kids club is fab. It was very quiet while we were there, and we didn’t utilize it that much as we were ahving too much fun as a family. The petting zoo is cool as is walking through the jungle and swimming in natural lagoons! My husband got stung by a stingray- which was frightening, but the staff doctor handled the situation wonderfully. We also were invited to a free meal at the chefs table. We had a surf and turf feast- on the hotel. It really was perfect for our family... a bit of paradise!

This is a great place for families. Don’t expect much as far as nightlife or whatever. Our girls burnt their feet on the pavement so insist on shoes. Bring your own sunblock etc as it isn’t cheap at the resort. Some people we met went to Higuey their first day and stocked up. We tried to do that, but the city was just to chaotic with two four year olds.

perfect place for family getaway

The place was very peaceful and serene. Landscaping and architectural details were well incooperated with surrounding environment naturally. If you want a place for relaxed, easygoing family vacation, far away from all that pollutions of the city, this is "the place". The only downside was because the resort was so isolated you don’t have many meal choices. There were five restaurants but a week of restaurant hopping, you get tired a little bit. And there were so many dishes were not available on the menu. If you’re going there for a week, be prepared to bring something on the side.

The service is bad and the schedule of activities never followed. The only good thing is the setting and the well maintained pools, lawns and beach. I would only recommend if the service was greatly improved. Bad kids club.

Paradise

We loved it. It was just want we wanted. Peaceful, lovely, clean, excellent complimentary breakfast, excellent food for lunch and dinner. It was family oriented and not "Disco" type with loud young. The beauty and tranquility that we experienced there made us feel so rested that we were experiencing a "natural high". Would love to go back.

There is a very nice kiddie park for little childrens entertainment. Adults should take snack, liquor and so on with you to save a few bucks because things are a little pricey.

Good hotel but...

The hotel is extremely isolated. Not for families. Yes for peace and quiet.Hotel is very clean,staff friendly and grounds well kept. Beach is small. The breakfast buffet by the sea is great with plenty of fresh fruits and choices But $2 for a small bottle of water. Dinners were not worth it. Very expensive and lousy but A for presentation. No other places for eating out.

No night life. Drinks are very expensive. It is not an all inclusive hotel but should be for families. Everything is a la carte and not worth the cost. After paying 106 dollars for 2 and no appetizers you go to bed hungry.

Hope to Return

Guidebook descriptions are right on target. This resort is ideal for older adults and families. Definitely not a big party scene. Relaxed spacious atmosphere, well-maintained grounds, and facilities and a helpful staff that we found not only courteous but positively friendly. It’s important to understand that outside of the resort there is little to see or do in the region. There is no local town or shopping district of any size. People seeking to explore local culture, retsaurants, or experiences of that sort should either look for a hotel in another area of the Dominican Republic or else be prepared to drive.
