short walk to the square
The "square" that the hotel is on is not the center of Falmouth...the main shopping and dining areas are a short walk away, which was ended up being fine for us given the fair weather that we had during our stay. Our room was in the "cottage" building (which I was disappointed to learn upon check-in as I had read about the odor issues in other posts). Although the hallways of the building have a pungent odor, the smell never carried over into our room. Be advised that the cottage building rooms are clean, but tight, just enough room for the beds and a desk. The only other services we used were the free wi-fi and the free continental breakfast. The wi-fi worked fine and was convenient, however, breakfast was another story. The quantity and types of food were what we expected, but the cleanliness of the dining area left much to be desired. Although there was an attendant at breakfast, the tables and chairs were always dirty (covered in food crumbs), the garbage cans overflowing and the water from the hot water pot looked and tasted like diluted coffee. Was a little surprised since our room was well maintained...

Great Location for Walking Around
This hotel is easy walking distance to the parks & shops of downtown Falmouth, as well as the shuttle to Woods Hole for a ferry to Marthas Vineyard. The local gardens and homes are lovely, & it is relaxing to just stroll the area. As for the hotel itself, I didnt care for the smell of their cleanser in the lobby & our room, but got used to it. We were on the 1st floor, and could hear every creak from the guests upstairs, and I thought the leaf blowing outside our window at 8:40 AM was a bit much. However...having read many reviews of other area hotels, not wishing to stay in a concrete jungle with drug stores and big box stores, & having made a last minute reservation, we felt lucky to be there. BTW---the hotels web site, plus every other web site I checked, listed no availability. Expedia.com secured us our room - thank you, Expedia!
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Take advantage of the easy walking distance to downtown Falmouth for fun shops, concerts in the park, farmers market, restaurants & Monday night lobster dinners at a local church. Check out the Falmouth Historical Societys website for events, and dont miss their lovely gardens. Walk 3 blocks to the shuttle for Woods Hole ferry to Marthas Vineyard---be aware if you drive there instead that this lot fills up & you could be directed 7 m.to the next available ferry parking.
