Travel to one of the best-known landmarks in Watarrka National Park, King’s Canyon. From its base, the sandstone walls of the canyon extend 330 feet (100 m) high. If you’re ready for a challenge, take a 3 1/2-mile (6-km) guided hike up to and around the rim. From there, take in the soaring panoramas of reds, browns, and patchy greens of the rugged Australian Outback.|
Or, take the shorter and less difficult walk along the creek that carved this magnificent canyon over millennia. Find fossils and trace erosion lines in the strata of the towering canyon walls. Discover the various plant and wildlife living in the gorge, sheltered from the harsh desert surrounding the park.
