Just across the river, but worlds away, Bangkok Noi offers a rare perspective of Bangkok that few visitors see. Away from the traffic and skyscrapers, hop on a mountain bike to explore the green heart and soul of the city where children play in the countlessklongs (canals), and locals go lazily about their daily activities.

Begin your ride near Khao San Road in Banglamphu. After a quick bike fitting and briefing, head out to wind your way through back streets of suburban Bangkok with its quaint riverside laneways. Cross the imposing Rama VIII bridge, and ride through a local community well known for its addictive mixture of betel nut, lime, and mulberry leaf.

Passing the King's Royal Barges, follow a well-worn path along the Bangkok Noi canal eventually leading you to spectacular Wat Arun (Temple of the Dawn). Renowned for its intricate architecture and ornamentation, Wat Arun is easily counted amongst Bangkok’s treasures. The area is also known as a basket of various cultures and religions home to Buddhist temples, mosques, and Portuguese-built churches.

This gentle 12-mile (20-km) ride along back roads is suitable for almost anyone who can ride a bike. An English-speaking guide provides insight into the local customs, culture, and history along the way.
