Beijing is steeped in history, with incredible monuments and relics attesting to centuries of creation, struggle, and change. See the foremost of these monuments on this one-day tour, beginning with the Forbidden City—the seat of power for Ming and Qing emperors from 1368 to 1911. Today it serves as the Imperial Palace Museum, with much of its original architecture and artifacts preserved.

From the splendor of emperors the tour moves to the influence of Chairman Mao, represented by Tian'anmen Square—the largest city square in the world. The next destination is an amazing example of Ming and Qing religious architecture, the Temple of Heaven; it's also China's largest temple and altar complex. Finally, escape to what was the retreat of emperors for 800 years: the Summer Palace, containing the world's longest art gallery and surrounded by one of Beijing's finest parks. Interspersed throughout the day are scenic rides on the bus, lunch, and unbeatable shopping at the Pearl Market.
