I Tried It! A staff review by Barney
Getting an Indian SIM card will really save you money while traveling in India. Making calls from your regular non-Indian cell phone can result in extortionate roaming charges, which can easily be US$23 per minute. With an Indian SIM card you can access the Indian cell phone network rates, which are amongst the lowest in the world. Receiving calls in the city where you got the card is free, roaming in other cities is pretty low cost, local calls are just a few rupees per minute, and international calls are much better value too.
