On Easter Monday, 1916, 1,600 men, women and children went out into the streets to fight for an independent Ireland. The battle raged for six days and resulted in the destruction of many parts of central Dublin. The executions of the rebel leaders by the British army awakened a generation to the cause of Irish freedom.|
