Spread over the area of Elephanta Island, the various temples within this vast cave complex are estimated to have been created between 450 and 750 AD. Originally known as Gharapur, 17th-century Portuguese explorers renamed the island and its cave temples after the large elephant head statue that once stood near the entrance of the caves.
Tour the impressive complex to discover what are considered the perfect expressions of this period’s Indian art. Wander through the collection of shrines, courtyards, inner cells, grand halls, and porticos that have all been symmetrically arranged according to Indian rock-cut architecture. Massive columns and high-relief works adorn the caves, the highlight being the 20 foot (6 m) highTrimutri (triple-headed Siva) who represents the creator, the preserver, and destroyer.

After you book your activity, follow these 3 easy steps:
1. Print your voucher; locate the voucher in your travel confirmation e-mail or in the My Trips/My Itineraries link on the site.
2. Follow the redemption instructions on your voucher; it iscritical to do this before you depart.
3. Take all vouchers with you; you must redeem one voucher per person.
Exchange your voucher for activity:
Reservation confirmation is required. Please contact Services International at least 24 hours prior to your preferred tour date to reserve your place and arrange your pick-up location and time. On the day of your tour, plan to meet your tour guide in the lobby of your hotel at least 10 minutes prior to your scheduled pick-up time. Please present your tour voucher to the guide before starting the tour. |
