Details

Pass through the Darling Ranges to Victorian York—the oldest inland township of Western Australia. Settled in 1831, York’s turn-of-the-century buildings preserve a glimpse of Australia’s pioneer heyday. Enjoy morning tea in this quaint town before driving on through the wheat belt plains, stopping along the way at the Corrigin Dog Cemetery—a tribute to man’s best friend. Pull into the town of Hyden and huddle in the gaping mouth of Hippo’s Yawn, a natural rock outcropping of wide proportions.

Break for lunch (*see options below) in Hyden—home to just two hundred people and impressive Wave Rock. After lunch, stand at the base of this aptly named rock formation and look above as solid rock crests like a massive wave high above you. Join an Aboriginal-culture tour and listen to legends as you explore this sacred place discovering its millions-of-years-old history and secrets—like the gnamma holes, depressions in rock where water accumulates. While in the area, drop by a wildlife park featuring native animals, or choose to view the delicate displays at an antique lace collection.

Set off for more unusual geographical features including the Humps and Mulka’s Cave where your guide retells the stories depicted in the ancient Aboriginal paintings found within the cave’s depths. Journey back to Perth making a last stop at the small farming town called Babakin where you have the opportunity to acquaint yourself with the locals over refreshing afternoon tea (on own).

*You may reserve this tour without lunch if you wish to bring our purchase your own, or you may choose between a picnic lunch or a lobster lunch at the Wave Rock Wildflower Shop. (Please select your preferred option when booking.)
