The Colosseum was given its name due to the colossal bronze statue of Nero that once stood next to the arena. Host to gladiatorial battles, exotic animal shows, and comedy contests, this impressive arena could easily hold 50,000 spectators in its day.|
You’ll become the spectator as you view the art collection at the Palatine Museum. It houses all the important works collected from Palatino Hill, the site of Rome’s first settlement. The final component to this tour of the highlights of Roman history is a visit to the Forum, the centre of ancient Rome.
