Travel along Chile's central coast on this day trip to Isla Negra and Vina del Mar. One the way to Isla Negra, keep your eyes peeled for the beautiful landscape of Peral Lagoon, a nature sanctuary providing a sheltered ecosystem to 100 different species of local and migrant birds. Once at Isla Negra, visit Nobel Poet Pablo Neruda's unusual home, designed as though it were a ship at sail. Overlooking the Pacific Ocean, it's easy to see how these breathtaking surroundings inspired many famous verses. Explore the poet's residence for a glimpse into his life and celebrated personality. Tour the grounds including his impressive penthouse bedroom showcasing stunning views of the sea, accessible by climbing a steep, narrow stairway. The poet, who died in 1973, is also buried on site.
Continuing on, the tour crosses the Casablanca Valley, passing miles of fertile vineyards before reaching Vina del Mar (Vineyard of the Sea). The area is ripe with beautiful parks, gardens, and avenues scattered across miles of sparkling beaches. Sights include the Presidential Castle, Liberty Avenue, the 1930s casino, and various classic centuries-old palaces.
