Following a scenic ferry ride from Seattle over to the majestic Olympic Peninsula, your day-long Twilight adventure takes you along the curved shoreline of Hood Canal where the occasional Orca and giant octopus swim. Continue west on this beautiful drive through the Elwha Valley and along the rushing Elwha River. You'll feel that you have been transported into Fiordland when the glacially carved, crystal clear, 12-mile (19-km) long Lake Crescent comes into view. To set the mood along your journey, the original Twilight movie will be playing on the 14-inch, dropdown DVD screen.
Next on the tour is the sleepy, gloom-ridden, and rainy town of Forksthe backdrop for Stephenie Meyer's cult series. Your “Twilighter” guide points out sights from the movie, including Bella’s faded red truck and the old-growth forest of Edward Cullen, known to the locals as the Olympic National Park's Hoh Rain Forest. Moist ocean air from the Pacific Ocean brings over 150 inches of rainfall annually to this area, which, along with the presence of Sitka spruce trees and "colonnades" of tree growth, qualify the west-facing valleys of the Olympic Mountains as the only temperate rainforest in the northern hemisphere! On a magical interpretive walk through the ¾-mile long Hall of Mosses Trail with a naturalist guide, you'll be engulged in moss-draped maples, which appear magically green in the spring, spectacularly colorful in the fall, and entrancingly lush all year round.
Even though the signs say, “No Vampires Beyond this Point,” you're welcomed into the town of La Push, north of the Quillayute River and home to Jacob Black's family, the Quileute Native American Tribe. Pass the Quillayute Prairie Cemetery, the scene of the "baseball field” in the movie, your tour comes to First Beach, one of the few drive-to beaches in the area and the perfect spot for surfing, bird watching, and whale, and possibly werewolf, spotting. Look for eagle nests along the forested trail to Second Beach, with its striking sea stacks and tidal pools.
On your return to Seattle, you'll stop off in Port Angeles. What Twilight day would be complete without dinner at Bella Italia restaurant, where Edward and Bella had their first date!
