Details

Gain a deep understanding of the traditional Aboriginal and local Darug (language group) culture. Get a taste of the creative, ceremonial, and spiritual lifestyle with a day-experience that is both inspiring and educational. Aboriginal-owned and guided, the original methods of learning are still practiced when you set out on this adventure to complete the ancient quest of walkabout. While it is a challenging excursion, the reward is exercise for not only the body, but for the mind and spirit as well. The route—or song line (story of place)—travels 2.5 miles (4 km) through secluded wild bush and rainforest to sacred sites, so be sure to listen to what nature and these sites have to share along the way.

Plenty of unique and even life-changing experiences await you on this journey. In the summer, you can paddle under a waterfall in a clear-water rock pool. During winter, enjoy some lunch in a sunny sandstone cave (next to a warm, crackling log fire if you prefer). See ancient art sites and artifacts, learn about using bush medicine, and participate in some bush tucker tasting. Take in the surrounding scenery and even observe some wildlife, then get creative with photography and ochre bark and body painting activities. All the while, you'll be connecting to the culture through story, art, and ritual, as well as stimulating your senses, enriching your spirit, and taking on a timeless connection to the sacred land.

Highlights:
  • 6 hour tour of cultural wisdom with Aboriginal guide in the Australian Blue Mountains bush
  • See the rainforest, ancient engravings, and relics, sandstone caves, and wildlife
  • Dreamtime stories, body and ochre bark painting
  • Try bush medicine and bush "tucker" tasting
  • Bathe below a waterfall (summer)
  • Complimentary gift (information from the experience with poem and Aboriginal drawing)
