Details

In spring 1791 Mozart was commissioned to compose a requiem, but it was left unfinished at the composer’s death the following December. While on his deathbed, Mozart supposedly performed the “Lacrimosa” with friends and is said to have died after the first bar. The Requiem has remained one of Mozart's most famous compositions, characterized by fear, hope, revolt, and redemption.
