this is where we always stay
we have stayed at this hotel since 1981. the location is across from the zoo so its quiet but close enough to walk to both Waikiki and local businesses on Kapahulu Avenue. the staff are friendly, efficient, and helpful. the beach (Kuhio) across the street is less crowded than the beaches further away from Diamond Head.

Good location, rooms a little small.
I would recommend this hotel with conditions... We stayed in an ocean view room and from the entrance balcony could see Diamond Head Peak. Unfortunately, we could also see the balconies, dirty pool and junk in the back yard of the adjoining hotel and apartments. The view off of our balcony was great as we could see the ocean, the park and a good portion of the beach. The Park Shore is located at a very busy intersection and the noise from the buses and garbage trucks was annoying with the door open. The room was small and clean, but not spotless. It is older and shows some wear, especially in the bathroom. The beds are small double beds and my wife and I are used to a King, so it was not comfortable. The pool was clean. The area surrounding the pool is painted concrete and there are no plants or other decorations to give it any sense that you are in an island paradise. There were only about 9 lounge chairs. There were only two places to sit in the area designated for free Internet on the second floor and it was uncomfortably hot each time I went there. The hotel is located within walking distance of the International Market and several clubs and restaurants. The price was reasonable and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. If you dont need to be in a resort environment and dont have much money to spend, or dont intend to be in the room that much, I would recommend this hotel. If you want a resort vacation experience, spend a little more and stay somewhere else.
Traveler's tip on dining
There are people standing along the sidewalks handing out flyers for restaurants advertising discount breakfasts, steak and lobster, or steak and shrimp for reasonable prices, as well as $3.00 Mai-Tais. We tried them all, and the food was good and well worth the price. The restaurants are older and not that fancy, but the price was abut 1/2 of what you would pay elsewhere.

It is okay
Nothing exciting about this hotel. Unfortunitly the pool was closed through most of our stay and that was not cool! The view is beautiful and the ocean is warm. No car needed as everything is close. The staff was ok, again nothing exciting. We go to Hawaii for the beach and not for the hotel. Value was okay for the money. Rooms are very small. My master bed/bath is larger.LuLus is good!
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
leave Waikiki and see the rest of the Island. Eat lunch at one of the shrimp farms. Yummy
