OK for History Buffs but don’t expect comfort

The Colonial Inn if fine if you’re a history buff and comfort is not a priority but after a long drive and a long day, it’s not a place I would recommend. The floor in my room was at such a slant that I literally felt I was going to roll out of the bed. The room was poorly insulated from noise and guests can hear everything from conversations in the corridors to everything their upstairs neighbors are doing. I ended up checking out of the hotel at 11PM and driving to A Loft hotel in the next town over to get a decent night’s sleep. Food in the restaurant was more pub fare than restaurant quality and service was courteous but not anyways remarkable.

Cant complain about hte service, there is none, not even an elevator.

If it were not for its historical involvement, I would not even rate this hotel. It has no elevators, no bellboys to carry your luggage to and from the reception desk. To think that it has three floors.

Not Impressed

This hotel is very old and the staff that assisted us were not very friendly or cooperative. We would not stay here again or recommend it to our friends.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

The town of Concord is very small and there is not a lot to do or see.

Excellent location. Dining room served really good food. A charming and convenient place to stay. The room was comfortable and the Hotel staff was helpful. Would recommend this Hotel.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Enjoyed seeing Louisa May Alcott’s Home. Local Antique stores were fun and reasonable. Loved Kimball Farm, a fabulous ice-cream stand which has been around since 1939. It’s a short drive away at 343 Bedford Rd. (Rt. 225) Carlisle, MA 01741.

Historical, yes; Comfort, not so much

Our room had beautiful rough saw beams and wide floor planks from its construction in 1716. Very impressive. But the floor slanted about 6" from one side to the other and was covered with two not-so-clean rugs. Beds were not all that comfortable. Bathroom should have had better quality modern updates, and not done on the cheap. Maybe other rooms had better quality fixtures. A/C was very noisy, but did drown out noise from constant traffic. Breakfast at hotel was very good with excellent service.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

The hotel is in the heart of Concord; many historical sites are within walking distance or a short drive and worth visiting. It may be better to enjoy the history of the hotel by dining there and staying someplace else with better amenities.

Wonderful experience

As many have already noted, it’s quiet and NOT part of the 21st century!!! We would stay there again if and when we travel to New England again. Though we visited Lynn, a few miles away, we would still stay here. Great staff-- Irene & Earnie from Alabama

Perfectly fine

I stayed here with my two daughters while visiting family. For us, the location was central to family and other things we were doing; the Inn was historic but well kept; the restaurants had very good food. Only thing was the parking was a little tight. Overall, a perfectly fine stay.

Colonial Inn stay was satisfying

Excellent meals in dining facility. Rooms were small but well maintained. Avoid basement rooms that have musty odor. Friendly and courteous staff.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Inn is close to all historical sites of Concord.

Only OK

It’s a historic Inn, so it’s old and rickety. Too many stairs if you’re carrying bags. Tiny rooms in the annex.

Beautiful hotel within steps of history

Wonderfly quaint hotel from 1716! Nice hotel staff who were very helpful with any concerns I might have. It was a nice quiet stay with no outside noise; even considering there’s a bar with live bands/singers in the hotel. The area is simply beautiful too! In the middle of everything historic! Highly recommend for any traveler; business or leisure; solo or with family.

Will always stay here when in town on business or leisure. Love the historical aspects of it!

A great place to slow down from the rapid pace of 21st Century America. A very relaxing place to stay that is also an easy & short drive to Hanscom AFB. Within leisurely strolling distance of many American icons...The North Bridge (first shots of the Revolution), homes of several of our earliest and still beloved authors, poets, and patriots, Walden Pond, etc. The restaurant is first-rate, and breakfast is done very well, too! A great way to start your day. The staff is very warm and inviting, and go the extra mile for you.

Traveler's tip for business travelers

Get a package deal...room & rental car, and save a small fortune in travel expenses. Package deals come with free breakfast, and it’s an honest-to-goodness REAL breakfast...made to order!

GREAT Hotel Stay!

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We checked in late (1AM) and the desk clerk was very accommodating. The room was cozy and comfy, perfect for our visit to the historic town of Concord. The bed was comfortable, the linens were obviously fresh, and the TV worked perfectly (although we only watched to see the weather report!). We had breakfast there too, and the bowl of fresh mixed berries seemed to be prepared that morning. The toast was over-sized, thick and filled with whole grains. Yummy! I would recommend this hotel to my friends and would definitely stay there again. It was a nice break from the big chain hotels which often lack in the quality of quaintness. After staying at the Colonial Inn for 3 nights, I felt as though I had just visited a museum of colonial history.

Quaint and Outstanding Historic Hotel

We stayed four days at the Colonial Inn. I had heard that the rooms might be a little small, so we opted for one of the two-room suites. They are actualy located in a historic home less than 1/2 block from the main building. The room was very spacious and included a kitchenette with refrigerator and microwave. The big antique bed was very comfortable, although the dresser was not of the quality of the rest of the very nice antique furniture. The Bathroom was all new and spacious. The ambiance of the suite was quite romantic and the service was exemplary. Our room was just a short walk from the Concord Center shops and restaurants. Every day was a joy and a pleasure. I’d recommend paying the little extra for the suite if you are looking for space, convenience and a very warm, romantic atmosphere.

A Big Disappointment

Upon arrival our room was much smaller than expected. The evening desk person was not at all helpful. Our remote for the TV didn’t work and he said it was "too late" to find any batteries(it was 7pm). The bathroom fan didn’t work, and there was no hot water for the shower. We were asked to wait until the morning to have these items fixed. The next day, the manager switched our room and we were very appreciative. However, it sounded like we were over the laundry and our roll out couch vibrated along with the laundry’s equipment. All in all, our stay was a big disappointment

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Historical tours. There was a trolley tour that ran between Lexington and Concord. It was very informative and we were able to get off the trolley and explore the important historical spots(ie The North Bridge and the site of the battle of Lexington.).The Honey-Pot Hill Orchards was a great place to see New England Apples at their best. The Orchards were located in Sudbury, Ma. The town is located approximately 10miles from Concord.

Not impressed

The layout of the inn is rather confusing, I felt like a lab rat in a maze, bumping into dead ends. Signs that lead to one particular room or another (lobby, restaurant, etc.) stop suddenly in one big room with 5 rooms leading off of it. Sign on the door leading outside to parking lot says the door is locked after 9:30 pm, which it was not (security issue). There did not appear to be an elevator in the Inn, which is fine, except no one offered to help me with my bags to my room on the 2nd floor. When I arrived, my room was extremely warm - 88 degrees - and even turning the thermostat down to 68 did not yield comfort; for 3 days the temp never went below 77 and there was no fan. The room and especially the bathroom was clean but microscopic. Warning: No mobile phone reception. For the price I paid, I simply expected much more in the way of comfort.

Great Time!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our time at this quaint hotel. The staff couldn’t have been any nicer and went out of their way to help us out if we had a question or problem, the food at the restaurants was also excellant and the hotel is located right in the middle of everything. Main Street is just a couple of steps away, and many historical places are within walking diatance.

Room was in the basement

Our room was in the basement of the hotel. The hallway smelled of garbage. It was necessary to leave the air conditioner on to drown out noise from the street and bar upstairs.

Lovely Concord Colonial Inn

Recently my daughter and I took at trip to Massachusettes and decided to stay at the Concord’s Colonial Inn due to it’s proximity to historic sites and Boston. The hotel was exactly what I expected and more. Charming old architecture and the feeling of history, if only the walls could talk. I highly recommend staying at the hotel if you like historic buildings. My only issues with the inn are minor, the beds were too soft (personal taste) and the wireless internet signal was almost nonexistant in our room. Minor items, and not enough to keep me from coming back in the future.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

From the "shot heard ’round the world" at the North Bridge Battlefield, to Walden Pond, Henry David Thoreau, Nathanial Hawthorn, Louisa May Alcott, and the local cemetaries Concord is a wonderful world of history. Also when in downtown visit the Wine and Cheese shop for their Italian sandwich, it is amazing. And after dinner spend some time in the Concord’s Inn tavern for great music and atmosphere.

Great getaway!

My friend had planned a first getaway from our families, and we had a great stay at this hotel. I love the proximity to town and historical walks as well as the variety of restaurants and the bar at the hotel itself. We had dinner at the bar to wonderful live music and closed the bar down. Last call for dinner was 9pm and for drinks was 11pm, a little early on a Saturday night, I found. On the other hand, housekeeping came by several times starting at 8:30 on Sunday morning to start cleaning, when we had obviously not checked out yet. Check-out was at 11am so we did not to be woken by staff that early.

It is old but quaint

We could not get a room in Boston due to college graduations and NBA finals so decided to stay outside of the city for a night. Concord is a cute historic town not far from Boston. The hotel hallways do not look too great but once we opened the door to our room we were very pleased, it is "country" in charm but that is what we expected. Clean, a/c, cable, free internet. Ate dinner at the Inn, it was fine, 2 cute bars in the Inn too. A nice front porch if the weather is good and a short stroll into Concord center.

Tired old hotel

The Colonial Inn looks charming from the front. Its historic character falls flat once one opens the door to the room. The rooms are small; the furniture is dated and well-worn. The shower head leaked and there was no bathtub. The rooms are not quiet. We heard the patrons in the bar and its music until late in the night. The food in the restaurant was greasy and unappealing. The service was extremely slow. I could not recommend staying at this hotel unless one was desperate for a bed.
