Good All-Inclusive out of PV

Enjoyed our 2-day stay at Barcelo after a 9 day stay at a condo in PV. Service at this Barcelo "Premier" resort was impeccable with a high number of staff to guests. Food was above average for an all inclusive, which means just O.K. overall. Security could have been a bit more attentive to a few of the post Superbowl partying guests, which stayed up out on the beach and within earshot until 4:30 a.m, followed by morning "bird songs" that sounded remarkably like overindulged wretching. That aside, the room and amenities exceeded expectations. Nice modern decor, great pools, and friendly staff. Also pleased that I was welcomed with my same-sex partner.

The good, the bad, and the cheap.

At night leave the doors to your balcony open and hear the surf just yards away. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The food was good quality---if not high quality. The beach was nice and the ocean water clean and swimmable. If you’re looking to economize and mingle with your Mexican hosts public transit into puerto vallarta is just ___pesos and to the airport is ___ pesos (less than the cost of U.S. public transit). The people are very friendly and suffered my lousy Spanish and helped me get around. An easy day trip is to Yelapa. Catch the 11 a.m. water taxi at Boca Tomatian which is a short bus ride south. The roundtrip in mid-January was slightly less dollars than the hour that the boat left. One failing of the Barcelo is that the room safes will not accommodate a standard size laptop. Bring a netbook, park your laptop at the desk, or take your chances. I took my chances and am happy to say I did not meet misfortune. You can pay the daily fee for in room internet access although it seemed that plenty of signals were available on my balcony. Barcelo’s gym has a couple of good treadmills and basic weights to do some resistance work. If you have to get a more serious workout in you’ll need to go to Gold’s gym in PV for a reasonable day rate and an even more reasonable weekly rate.

"Plan on going back"

We loved the place, our first time at an all inclusive resort. We enjoyed everything about it! We plan on going back next year and taking our kids with us, they would love it. The staff was fabulous, very polite and friendly. Food and drinks were great. Beautiful setting, all around the resort. Can not wait to go back.
