Point Pleasant-Great Views!

We arrived around 9:30pm, after hours, and the security person let us in to our room because everyone had gone home for the evening. Unfortunately he put us in the wrong room and we had to move the next morning, but they gave us a gift certificate to their restaurant, The Agave Terrace, to make up for our trouble. The restaurant was fantastic and I recommend it highly! The staff answered all our questions and was very friendly and helpful. We had an ocean-facing room with our own private porch - the view was fantastic. The hotel is tucked into the side of a steep hill, so walking down to the beach was much easier than the walk back up. We had to stop several times to catch our breath. We are not big beach people, so this wasn’t a big deal to us. I would not recommend it for little children. They did have a swimming pool which overlooked the ocean-beautiful. It was located a short taxi ride from Red Hook. We had no trouble getting a taxi whenever we needed one. We found a little grocer in Red Hook and bought a few things to have in our room. Having a kitchen with stove & refrigerator was great. If you are looking for massages, saunas, weight rooms and other high end resort amenities, this may not be your place. But if you are looking for a clean and comfortable place, friendly staff, great view at a reasonable price, this place is a winner.

We purchased eggs, bread and some snacks and made breakfast each morning to save money.

This is how it should be!

Point Pleasant on the east end of St. Thomas was the perfect starting point to begin every day on our vacation. We would wake up to the most beautiful sunrises every morning. Then we would make a cup of coffee and sit out on the veranda listening to the birds and the sea. The grounds are very tropical with flowering trees and shrubs and guava berry bushes with little yellow finches and humming birds flying about. The iguanas would be walking around or climbing in trees. The whole resort had a very natural “Tropical Island in the Caribbean” feel to it. Everywhere we would venture on the grounds had the most incredibly scenic “picture worthy” views.

FYI: 1.Renting a car is a must. There is too much to do on the Island not to. After the long flight stop by Emerald Beach Resort for a drink and a little something to eat. It’s right up from the airport. Then take 33 up and around staying left at “Four Corners” (route 40) stop at “Drakes Seat” to take pictures of the view overlooking Megan’s bay beach. 2. Don’t forget to bring towels and a bag to carry them. Get up early and catch the ferry over to St. John. Spend the day. Don’t forget to bring a change of clothes. Trunk bay beach. Happy hour bars. Great restaurants. Beautiful views. 4. The market in Red Hook has everything you need. Buy a cooler and fill it with ice for food and drink to take to the beach. 5.Favorite beach is 2 minutes up the road at Sapphire Resort. You can rent snorkel gear there. Snorkel around the reef on the right side around the pool to the beach on the other side of the pool. You’ll see turtles, puffer fish, barracuda, squid and the rest of the local fishes. 6. The marina at the right of Sapphire is the best place to rent waverunners. You have the freedom to ride around and they are fast! 7. Iggies at Bolongo Bay resort has an all you can eat Crab legs on Tuesday nights. It’s really fun and you don’t have to ask for refills. 8. Don’t forget to spend an afternoon to Charlotte Amalie. Park on a side street and walk around town through the passages and gades. 9. Breakfast at Molly Malones on the marina in Red Hook. Or make your own in the condo.

Missing it already

We went just after peak season, so didn’t have to deal with over crowded lines. The people were so friendly and helpful and not just staff but the people in St Thomas. When one reviewer said to bring your hiking shoes, that was an under statement!! It is a very steap walk so eat up cause you’ll definitely walk it off!! I guess that’s the price you pay for the amazing view. Had a blast at Fungi’s there at the resort. Great staff and food. Can’t wait to come back.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Taking the bus may take some time but they come by every ten minutes. You can see the whole island and get off wherever you want for a dollar. You ride with the locals in the open air. It’s great!
