Best Resort on the Big Island!
The Mauna Lani is a great hotel for kids! Between the pool and the private beaches, it was so relaxing for all members of our family. We took our 5 and 1.5 year old and they had soo much fun running around the open areas. The only downside was there were a limited amount of evening dining choices. It was either their high end restaurant (Canoe House) or room service from that restaurant. There times we just wanted a wider selection, especially if you are staying several nights and do not want to leave the resort. Overall the hotel staff and activities were top notch. From casual visits to hotels around the big island, the Mauna Lani appeared to the best (to us!).
Traveler's tip on local attractions
If you plan to visit the volcanos, it takes 2.5 hours to get there and the same to get back. It is best to leave early in the morning to maximize your time there.

Best place to stay on the Big Island!!
The service is exceptional & they do not charge you annoying parking & resort fees. Even without a resort fee you still get use of snorkel equipment daily for 4 hours & beach & pool seating/cabanas are no charge. They have 2 beaches at this resort. One beach had sea turtles on beach & in water at all times & second beach excellent for snorkeling - lots of coral & colorful fish in very clear water. This resort has a laid back peaceful feeling instead of the big crowded national brand resorts on the island. I would definitely return to the Mauna Lani!!
Traveler's tip on dining
Definitely worth the trip into Kona to eat at the Kona Brewing Company. The pizza was great & nice to sample all the beer. Also must get the homemade ice cream for dessert at the Canoe House on the Mauna Lani Resort.

Best Vacation Ever!
The location is fantastic, the hotel is fantastic, the food is fantastic, and most of all the staff is fantastic! What makes this resort a superb place is the staff that works there. The staff truly care that you have a great stay with them and will do anything to make sure you do. You cannot fake this, they truly treat you like a member of their family. It was the best vacation we have ever had and we have traveled all over the world.
Traveler's tip on dining
Hawaii is not cheap, especially when it comes to eating out but you have to eat at least once at the Canoe House, the restaurant at the Mauna Lani. The food is great and the staff is wonderful but the star of the show is the location. You are right on the beach and have a great view of the sunset each night. We were given 20% off because we were staying at the hotel which made it more reasonable but it would have been worth it anyway because of the view. Dont miss it.
