Beautiful historic hotel
The lobby and bar areas of this hotel are gorgeous and filled with historical curiosities. Rooms are fine...nothing luxurious, but clean and comfortable. Service was terrific, and very welcoming to non-Spanish speakers. The location cant be beat.

Cant wait to go back
I rediscovered this historic hotel on the Expedia listings when planning to take my daughter to Mexico City. It was where we began our summer study, and I was glad to find it. It surpassed my expectations. The staff couldnt have been more helpful and welcoming. The concierge Ariel took better care of us than I would have thought possible. In deference to the Travel Warnings re: taxis, we had Ariel arrange taxis from the hotel, the tour van, and taxi pickup after the ballet, and to and from the Frida/Diego sights. When we returned from our outings, we were offered limonadas, or Cokes in the bar, etc. Interesting things were going on, e.g., a movie was being shot in the hotel, a conference of Koreans was beginning on one of the days, etc. As for eats, the cafe was dandy (on an internal patio with many plants and birds), as was the old Sanborns in the lobby. As the hotel spans a full block, it was much like our old Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans (which just reopened). I felt very welcome and very much at home. I recommend it highly.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
We were fortunate to have bought tickets in advance for the Ballet Folklorico. It was full. Dont miss it.
