Just as expected
Barkston Gardens is old, the carpets are worn out with huge seems and the floors really do creak like a haunted house every step above us and when we walked. It is a marginal 3 star hotel. It is also in a great location, extremely convenient and clean. Our two bed room actually turned out to be a 3 bed room and the bathrooms were big (unusual in UK) and clean. TV was only the five free stations which for a week was a bit frustrating. Overall, yes it is a worthy hotel for tourists but certainly not a 3-5 star hotel for your honeymoon. Location for access to tube and services was great!

The most affordable and most convenient hotel in London
Barkston Garden to me is truly the most affordable and most convenient hotel I have ever stayed in London. I had my reservation when I booked it because many hotels in the vicinity, like most hotels in the area, have very small rooms. But I am relief to find out that it had a decent sized room for a single and all the amenities that a 3 star hotels have plus free internet in the room, which alone, would have cost £ 15-25 per day in other hotels in the city. The hotel literally located across the street from Earls Court tube station which run the Piccadilly and District line. The reception staffs are very friendly and helpful. The room is nicely decorated with modern decor and new furniture compare to the hotels in the surrounding area. Supermarkets such as Marks and Spencer and many other decent eateries are literally surrounding this hotel and yet the hotel is tucked in a quiet street adjacent to the busy street. I also feel that the room is safe because it uses card key entry. I had bad experience with doors using keys in the past at a notting hill hotel because it got broken into easier. I highly recommend this hotel and it will definitely be my hotel of choice the next time I go back to visit London again.
For good one stop shopping, definitely go to Oxford Circus. You can find everything you need in the entire stretch of Oxford Circus and a short perpendicular walk to Carnabry Street and Regents Street for more shops.

Friendly and accommodating staff, and an excellent breakfast. Will certainly try to return here next time I am visiting London.
