Wonderful Honeymoon Spot!

My husband and I stayed here for our mini-honeymoon after having a large destination wedding in Montego Bay. Sunset at the Palms was the perfect place to relax. The grounds are gorgeous! The staff was friendly! The food was divine! The beach is just a short walk across the street. The water is amazing! I wish we had the chance to stay a couple more days to experience the spa services. I have been to several other locations in Negril and I would definitely recommend Sunset to anyone looking for a romantic getaway!

Average at best

This is a small all-inclusive on Bloody Bay in Negril. The resort is well maintained and clean. Rooms are a neat design, however the beds are extremely uncomfortable. No mini-fridge in the room and no room service. Since the rooms are across the road from the beach, you can hear road noise. Even with the AC on, the sound of bugs and other critters in the vegetation can be heard in the room. Food selection on the buffet is limited. The ala carte dinners were good. Drinks so-so. Pool area nice. The vendors on the beach and in the water are a constant hassle that makes it difficult to enjoy the surroundings. Staff are friendly except for the bull dog in charge of the spa. She was very aggressive and rude with myself and my wife. Go off property for spa services as it is much cheaper and more pleasant and you don’t have to listen to people playing tennis while getting a massage. Would not stay here again.

Times Square Mall is a good place for jewelry and souvenir shopping, no hassles like at the straw market. They also have one of very few atm’s that give US dollars (max=$200/day).

Great stay-but wish everything was open...

We had a great time and a great stay-but we went off season and not all of the restaurants in the resort were open...everyone was nice and we met great people...really quiet and relaxing...

Our Favorite Spot to Unwind

This was our fourth visit to Sunset at the Palms for my husband and I. We keep going back because of the excellent staff and the service they provide. We really feel like "family" now and feel we have made friends with everyone there. However, this is not the place to go if you want a lively, action-filled vacation. It is very laid-back and quiet, but if you need a place to go to "get away from it all" this is the spot! The grounds are beautiful, the beach is excellent (except for the constant "sales pitches", but this is to be expected in Jamaica) and Lenora at the beach grill makes the best red snapper around!

Very nice, we are going back in 6 months!

Very nice resort! Rooms and entire place was very clean, the food was like home cooked. Jerk Chicken at the beach grill was excellent. We liked it so much that we are going back next summer.

DO NOT USE Jamaica Tours for your transportation. It took us 2 1/2 hours to get from the airport to the hotel. You can get a red plate cab for the same amount of money and get there in a little over an hour. Other than the bad service from Jamaica Tours, the rest of the vacation was wonderful. Very smooth transaction from Expedia too.

Very Relaxing

This was a nice resort. I’ve stayed at 4-5 all inclusive resorts before this and I have to say this one was good, not great. I’m used to room service, minibars and several restaurants to choose from. Room service was available (for a small fee), no minibar and really only 1 restaurant to choose from. There is another restaurant available in addition to the main one but it’s only open Tues, Thurs & Sat for dinner. Breakfast at the main restaurant is great. I would definitely recommend eating lunch at the beach grill. The cheeseburgers and jerk chicken are excellent! The food at the main restaurant for dinner was good, not great. I did not try the a la carte restaurant, which others had good things to say about. The beach is small but nice. Water is perfectly clear and they have it sectioned off so you don’t have to worry about stepping on any little critters. There are pesky vendors on the beach, but that’s Jamaica for you. The staff is very nice & accomodating. This is not a resort for light sleepers! The landscaping at the resort is very lush and whatever little critters live in it at night (tree frogs??) make a lot of noise so be prepared with ear plugs.

Traveler's tip

There are taxi drivers that sit outside the resort. Talk to Garry. He will give you a better price than if you arranged transportation through the resort. He’s very nice & his vehicle is clean & comfortable. He’s fast & drives safe.

I would stay there again

The food was good but we were disappointed as we expected to see more local dishes such as ackee and saltfish especially at breakfast the dishes were mostly American type. The waiters and bar staff were very very friendly which made the few hours we spent there enjoyable. The hotel was nice but the rooms was not that clean and if the housekeeper came and you were still in the room they never came back later to clean it. There was a lady at the front desk that tried to rip us off by saying that we had owed them USD60 and we had to get nasty with her letting her know that the room was paid in advance as we booked using Expedia.

Very chill vacation

The resort is perfect!!!! Much better than the huge super clubs. Everything from the rooms to the bars perfect!!! Best vacation and will be back!

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Stay away from "king of the beach" local who hangs by the beach trying to sell u stuff. He is the worst person to do business with. Bring bug spray and some candles b/c rooms are a bit dark. Also, when buying something always go 1/4 of whatever price they give you. Ex. 100 for cab give him 25.

Relaxing Honeymoon

We had a blast at the Sunset at the Palms. We stayed there for our honeymoon after getting married at the Grand Palladium Jamaica. We loved both resorts, but it was nice to come to a samll property that was relaxing and secluded and geared towards couple after a week of wedding craziness with family and friends at a huge resort. The place is beautiful, amazing woodwork and beautiful grounds. The staff is fantastic, everyone will know you name and the beach is so beautiful you will hate to leave it. If you are looking for a place with a lively nightlife, look elsewhere. This place does have a reggae or steel drum band play nightly, but they are done early. There was a great group of people there while we were there and we had a fun time even after the bands were done. Its small so you do hang with the same people the whole time, which we considered a plus.

Amazing honeymoon!!

My husband and I stayed at SATP in June/09 for our honeymoon and absolutely loved it! This resort will treat you like kings and queens from the minute you check in. All the employees are amazing and so friendly and willing to accomodate you in any way. The rooms are so cute, it’s like having your own private treehouse and the resort is so peaceful and quiet-just what the doctor ordered! I will recommend this to anyone who wants to get away from it all and have an amazing, relaxing trip. My husband and I will be bragging about this place to everyone we know and we are already planning on going back!

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

I was advised to bring bug spray for our stay and strongly recommend it, there are alot of trees and plant life there that attract the mosquitos. We brought our own plastic cups so we didn’t have to keep going up to the bars for refills(their cups are a little too small). We also brought alot of $1’s and $5’s because it easier to tip if you want to and then they won’t give you change back in Jamaican dollars if you are outside of the resort.

Great Stay at the Palms

The hotel and staff were fantastic. Had some rain, downpour actually for 1 day. The other days just a drizzle now and then, but still warm enough to swim. We were warned about the mosquitoes, but bug spray didn’t even stop them. Two out of four in the party were covered with bites, despite the daily fogging. However, the staff all are fantastic and tend to your every need. The beach grill is great - never a wait!

Great small resort

The resort is small and relaxing. The staff is top notch (Freindly and helpful; always smiling. Don’t worry about the fact that there is only one resteraunt/buffet. The food was the best we have ever encountered at an "All inclusive". The evening dinners were unbelievably good.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Bring insulated cups for your beverages. Bar service sups are small plastic, about 8 ounces. We brould 20 ounce insulated cups for rum drinks and beer and we were the envy of the beach. You don’t have to run back to the bar every 5 minutes for a cold one.

complete relaxation

This was a surprise trip for my wife’s birthday, and she was completely blown away with the resort. It was clean, safe and beautiful. The jerked chicken and Red Stripe on the beach was a great way to spend an afternoon. Not the place for night life but a perfect location to forget your troubles for a while.

Great staff, food, beach - excellent stay

Sunset at the Palms is a beautifully kept hotel. The rooms and grounds are immaculate. The food is varied and delicious. The staff are friendly and helpful. Everyone goes out of their way to make you feel comfortable and relaxed. My only complaint is that the chairs on the beach need to be replaced - uncomfortable and old. Otherwise, we had a great time (third time there) and we will be back.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Beach vendors offer boat rides, hang gliding, jet ski rides all for additional cost. If you want to spend the extra, go for it, it is a lot of fun. Rick’s is worth the cab fare for the view and the cliff diving. The ride to the craft mart is not for me - too pushy and not cheap!

Best place to stay (from what I saw)

This was a great place to stay - the "tree houses" were basically two room units built about four feet off the ground on wooden legs, All of the other local resourts that I saw were large hotels. The beach was accross the street but the resourt provided a "crossing guard". Very doable!

Traveler's tip

The locals around the resourt will try to sell you everything from a taxi ride to illegal drugs. They hang outside the resourt and on the beach - I would suggest not to make eye contact with them and stay in the center of the beach (they only seem to bother you when you are walking down the beach.

Outstanding!

We spent a week at this resort and we will definitely return. As first-time visitors to Jamaica, we certainly picked the best place to stay. Negril is the best destination on the island, and Sunset at the Palms is the best resort in Negril. We talked to a number of people staying at other resorts and they didn’t compare. Most were like hotels, impersonal and stuffy. The food was outstanding, and the people really made the difference. Beach is excellent and private, although you can wander along Bloody Bay to find whatever. I should be keeping this place secret...

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

You won’t save a few bucks here, but it is worth every penny.

Very Relaxing

My husband and I recently went to Sunset at the Palms in search of peace and relaxation and that is exactly what we found. The grounds are beautiful, the room is divine and the service was great. The pool is a great place to hang out especially with the availability of a pool bar. They have a great hot tub as well nearby. The beach is across the street, but easily accesible and is also fairly nice. The staff is very friendly and lots of fun to talk to. The food wasnt the best we’ve had but with the all-inclusive rates and how amazing everything else was, we had little to complain about. This is a perfect getaway if you are looking to just relax in the sun.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

The drive to and from the airport is about an hour to an hour and a half long, so plan accordingly. We got a personal driver thru the hotel which was a great decision. I believe they do offer a less expensive shuttle option, but that will lengthen the drive by at least another hour. Also, the property is essentially divided in two, with the newly renovated side on one end and the older side on the other. Definetly book your room on the newer side. The rooms are much nicer.

Island Paradise

We went here for our honeymoon in December 08 with high expectations and left with no disappointments. Sunset at the Palms is everything the pictures, descriptions and reviews say it is. The resort was beautiful and clean. Food was great! The Lotus Leaf was fantastic! (and that is coming from a very picky eater) The staff was super nice and helpful. The sunset on the resort beach was breath taking. We highly recommend staying here and can not wait to return!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Rick’s cafe is a must see. The cliff divers, the sunset and the boneless jerk chicken strips are great!!

Beautiful facility

My friend and I stayed at this hotel for a wedding another friend of ours was having at sandals down the road. My friend had stayed here a few months earlier with her husband, and they remembered her when we got there and even gave us a bottle of champagne for being return customers. The room and grounds were beautiful, and staff was very friendly. Wound definitely reccommend it for a more relaxed atmosphere.

Pleasantly surprised

We were definitely not expecting the hotel to be as nice as previous reviews we read, but upon arrival, everything we had heard was confirmed. From the staff who welcomed us at 1 in the morning in the middle of a tropical storm, to the peacefulness of the resort, to the food, the rooms, the landscaping-everything was amazing. I never thought I would ever vacation to the same place twice, but this resort I will definitely plan on visiting again.

Absolutely loved Sunset at the Palms

We loved the resort. The beach is across the street but they have a crossing guard and the beach is beautiful and the beach bar and grill was fantastic. We went there just about every day for lunch for some jerk chicken, snapper or cheeseburgers. We ate at the Lotus Leaf twice and had fantastic meals. The service was EXCELLENT! The staff was friendly and most of them remembered our names from day 1. We were very impressed with our whole stay. It was hard to leave!

Loved our time there..........

I am not a big "all-inclusive" traveler but the service was excellent; the food was good; the rooms were nice and comfortable; anytime that we needed something the staff was ready and eager to help us out. The evening entertainment left alot to be desired (quite bad in fact)and some of the non motorized water sport equipment was broken and not available (Sail Boats in particular).

Traveler's tip

Whatever you do.....don’t rent a car and drive unless you want to add a new dimension to adventure in your trip!
