Great hotel
We had a great week - Savannah is a great city. The service was very good, the restaurant is top shelf...have stayed at many fine hotels and this was up there....only drawback for some is location on south side of historic district, a good walk from the river...the hotel had free, convenient shuttle whereever we needed to go, went to the sister hotel on the river with rooftop bar...we liked the quiet neighborhood but some might prefer the hustle and bustle closer to the river would definitely return

A must-stay!
Wonderful experience! The hotel is inspiring. We felt as if we were residing in an art musem. The art and its presentation throughout the hotel is awesome along with the rest of the decor. The staff is friendly and cares about the quality of the guests experience. The only small downside was the construction taking place in beautiful Forsythe Park across the street. We were awakened by their efforts. The bar at 700 Drayton was playing loud music until the wee hours of the morning one night. Fortunately, we are late nighters so it did not bother us much. It must have been a private party.....Ask before you book! Otherwise, we were delighted with our visit and will stay there again.

Chic, quirky, upscale, immaculate, comfortable
Initially the quirky decor (over-the-top chandeliers, unusual art and sculpture, mausoleum-like grey marble elevator walls with dark velvet bunting) was a bit off-putting, but this is an extremely comfortable and accommodating hotel. We liked the location near Forsyth Park but - CAUTION! Construction in park across street from hotel is ugly and noisy - get a room on the inner courtyard facing the warm and beautifully constructed pool. Our bathroom was large but marble floor slippery when wet. Bose sound system in room, single-shot coffee maker, lighted armoire interior, quiet HVAC system, makeup mirror and hair dryer all nice touches. Our arrangement required $20 per night by valet if we wanted to park in lot. We chose easily available street parking. Weddings take place in ballroom but we were not disturbed by this. Staff helpful to a fault. Lunch in the bar was expensive and portions ungenerous. I was underwhelmed with dinner at the restaurant, as well -- they tried a little too hard, perhaps. However, if I ever returned to Savannah, I would definitely go back to the Mansion. It is a peaceful retreat. Id skip the hotel meals, get breakfast at Christophers on Liberty Street, and do dinner at the Pink House (expensive) or Ruths Chris steakhouse. Parkers Market on Drayton Street is a fabulous place for gourmet takeout, deli, fruit, etc.
Pretty much anyplace you want to go in the city on a weekday will have parking meters which require plenty of quarters and are only good for 2 to 3 hours. Find the visitors center (located in the Savannah Historical museum building on MLK Blvd) and buy a parking permit for $6. This will give you the freedom to come and go as you please without worrying about getting a ticket. Savannah handicapped parking spaces have meters; so, be careful to note not only the meter but whether not the spot is handicapped.
